Re: post your modern day sickness
update:
Rode the Pyzel in better, steeper more powerful waves over the weekend.
It really came into its own in these waves. It was only 3-4 foot max, but the waves were nice and steep.
Board has more down the line top end speed than I first thought so it made some pretty fast sections fairly easily. Board did nearly everything Iwanted it to and I found I could just surf it without thinking about the board too much (my idea of a good board). It loved going top to bottom in the steeper sections and just felt very secure and safe up higher in the face. I made turns in sections where my normal board probably would have thrown me off. Loved some steeper drops too and just had a habit of recovering out of the bottom like it ate steepeness for breakfast.
Just had to get used to a slight feeling of loosness in the tail. Bit more than what Im used to in my everyday boards. Once I eased back a bit through turns I was again rewarded. Muck drivier board than I first expected looking at the back end curve. The board is a keeper for sure.

The 6'10" and 7'2" are both sweet looking boards mate. I'm guessing the 6'10" is the first board you're packing?.
Re: post your modern day sickness
The carabine looks closer to a big short board than a mini mal.
Nice stick. As or the others. What's the thomo ish board go like ?

A little Chris Garrett shorty. 6'0" x 19.25 x 2.5 Triple concave, a double into a single sitting inside a big single from the entry point to right out the back fins.
Wide point is about 3.5 inches back, so it's right between my two feet. This is to go top to bottom. My two other boards are more down the line boards.

Braithy, you should tidy your room before you go surfing.

haha ... no that's a spare room. We're going through all the kids clothes to give to the salvos.
I started this job back around january, and really ought to finish it!

a friend has loaned me this and i'm going to try it out down the coast next week. it's 5'6", don't know the other measurements. i haven't ridden a board this small since i was 10 years old, no idea what to expect.
Re: post your modern day sickness
a twinny i picked up recently..
it's pretty hi-perf modern for a twin fin (compared to most twinnies)
goes great! super lively, fast and loose without being skatey or unpredictable..
loves bowls, and handles steep hollow stuff with ease, and pretty drivey for a twin fin..

It looks that way for sure, but It's mostly the camera angle from behind making it appear that way.
The pads actually over the fins, which being a twin and no rear fin, are by default further up anyway. If u had ur foot jammed right at the back it would slide and skip out. Check the bottom shot of the fins and u will soon see. When surfing the board it feels fine where it is.
Second hand off gumtree and It came with the tail pad on it. would've just gone for wax otherwise.

She's still kinda learning, so may not be the best judge.
I've had one quick sesh on it and really liked it. Too much foam for me up front and would go down a coupla inches, but the thing flies. Really quick on takeoff. Holds through turns really well. It's epoxy which I've never ridden before. But I think I like it. Super light.
Will have a proper go on it and let you know.

Aloha Manly. I think they're around $850ish but I get mates rates so not 100% sure.tonks wrote:Yeh thanks. Just out of interest, where'd you pick it up from and how much is an epoxy version worth?BA wrote:She's still kinda learning, so may not be the best judge.

BTW, took it out in good overhead waves over Easter. Kinda felt like it was a bit boaty. Felt like it skipped along the surface. No bite. Maybe the thickness issue. Def. fast though.
Re: post your modern day sickness
There's plenty of foam up front and under the chest. I guess I'm just used to boards that don't have this. Mine are generally 2 1/4. Hence the boaty feeling I guess.
