Re: Ask Carroll
I think he has a snowballs chance in Hell.
The best movies are made by highly skilled crews who have been working together for quite some time. Simon is tackling a deeply ambiguous and unsettling novel which has been re-scripted and thus altered, probably quite a bit from what you may have read in the novel. He'll be doing it with a crew, some of whom will almost certainly have worked together, but who will not have worked with him as director before. So a great deal depends on the assistant director, whomever that is. That yet to be publicised person will do all the hard yards on the ground during actual shooting. If he or she cannot knit the crew together strongly around the scenes, and if those scenes are weirdly cheesy as "Breath" constantly teeters on being, well, it's gonna be a tough edit.

There's something about women's shot-putting which wets the appetite.

She's not just a pretty face.
Re: Breath. Has all the potential to be a B Grade travesty of itself. I always remember the movie they made out of Sometimes A Great Notion. One of my Favorite books. Ordinary.
Dune was a stinker even though it was directed by The Twin Peaks guy, David Lynch.

Re: Ask Carroll
What if they introduced a female shot putter character as a love interest into the Breathe screenplay? If the Kombi's rocking don't bother knocking - I'd pay to see that movie but who would play her boyfriend? Need a big wave charger from the seventies for that. How's your acting skills Nick?

they don't need a female shot putter in that script when they've got Eva.

Re: Ask Carroll
I have read it but now I feel guilty for forgetting the mature female love interest I have honestly tried to like Tim Wintons stories but I struggle to take anything much away from them even Cloudstreet. Does this make me unAustralian? If so please don't dob me in to tony Abbott
Re: Ask Carroll

Re: Ask Carroll
OK that's it. aerating has never ONCE been invited on Q&A. I'm calling for a Realsurf-wide boycott of the program. Nobody is to accept an invitation from it until further notice.
like how retarded would you have to be, I actually felt dumber for writing that.

Nick,
Do you write about anything that isn't surfing related?

Abbott couldn't feel any dumber than he was before his decree. I would love to see Malcolm turn up next week on Q&A.
Breath is my favourite Tim Winton novel but based on past movie experiences such as Cloudstreet I fear that its conversion to film will fail. I hope that I am wrong.
