Isnt byron and the pass safe no matter what? Like no one's been bumped there ever?steve shearer wrote:usually many times.
When ever ive surfed there, ive felt safer there than the mouth of the creek...
Re: Where did you surf today ?
About 5 surf ski paddlers have been hit or bumped there in the last 8 years or so

Feels safer but Paul cox got taken in chest deep water at Clarkes - the inside of the Pass - and there have been numerous bumping a and sightings including a chick on a kayak getting bitten and a guy getting knocked off a surf ski.
Lots of legs in the water and you only need to be faster than the slowest person out there. Watch the shitt hit the fan when the first backpacker gets attacked there.

Funny how Sharks were always this abstract concept merging with the great unknown of the sea....and your own unconscious....until they bite you. That's not an abstract concept.

It's such a surreal concept being eaten alive, probably like falling from the sky after a plane explodes. Saying that:

Rest day today after three days of 5 hours plus in the water: erratic 2-4', mainly glassy, not crowded at all. Rode a nice Byrne Michael Baron 6'6.

Keep up the good work, Cranky. Not surfing today. Letting the antibiotics kick in properly.

Blustery 3-4 foot wind burgers. Like surfing a shopping trolley down a flight of stairs.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Manly, pretty good, bigger than I expected, reckon consistent 4ft maybe a tad larger or smaller in between those sets. Worth it.
It was busy and I've never seen so many guys not catch waves. Weird.

Heavens Ed.
Completely sharkless.
2 - 3 ft with 20 out on the left and right bank beside the river mouth, wave quality as usual very average but it was a beautiful day and it was great being in the ocean.
I was the only surfer using a shark shield and still have all nine toes after my surf session.
Overheard seven conversations where the 'S' word was mentioned, firstly at the viewing platform, then about 4 times out in the water, all manner of regurgitated opinions, then later when I'm changing an old couple mention there has been another attack at Broken Head, then I get in a conversation with another surfer, then I check the waves before leaving and two people at the viewing platform are talking about sharks.
A few seconds later I notice a very large whale only 100 metres out from the surfers heading south with a calf.

Where I "didn't" surf today. Brutal left off the back of mahons pool running for about four seconds before exploding.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Torrential rain on the bukit for the last hour and last night. Just moved my scooter and a few others from the drive way thats now become a creek. The cave stairs might be a waterfall in an hour or so when the water drains down from the boondocks
Got just a couple of uncrowded waves this morning at the other place I usually surf, including a super fast 250m 2 footer, easy the best wave of the (very bad) morning. My rotater cuff is fcukd, couldn't sleep on either shoulder last night, supposedly a warning that something bad has happened
