The fact that you’ve had to wait for about 8 months to do that kind of proves my point though eh. Pretty nice waves mind. Where did you surf champ? Any pics?
So I'm in an email conversation with some mates about a trip we are planning. Separate to the trip, one of the guys has a lot of family in the UK so is planning to head to there later in the year and will be going to Wales. Another mate in the chat lived there for a few years and (surprisingly) rated it quite highly despite the cold.

Given this is predominantly Australian I'm going to name some spots here "the most constant & my favourite spot is Freshwater West – has a big beach with peaks, 2 good reefs and a submerged slab wave [think Shark Island] . Broadhaven south is also a very good wedge style wave open to all swell. A couple of picturesque spots include Manorbier [reef & beach] and West Dale. There are also lots of secret spots which require a dash across a farm. "

So GSTQ, you holding out an the forum on wave quality?
A few of those spots are in this article that I’ve posted before http://wightsurfhistory.co.uk/wp-conten ... _off-2.pdf.

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Do you take average consistency where 9 out of 10 times you get a bag of waves and a few decent turns OR a bit of a novelty spot that fires when Mars in concert with Sagittarius. I guess if you surveyed say 15,000 surfers from around the world where would they chose. Wales or Sydney? I have no idea what the result would be.

Im never going to surf in Wales so I guess I don’t really care.

Nice. Mostly mainstream, albeit pretty. though the wedgy beachbreak looks like 3-4 foot mystics, and the slab has some 3-4 foot voodoo or south coast vibes to it.

Do they work often?

They work on contrasting conditions. All of the places channels’s mate referred to are in Pembrokeshire. If you look at a map you’ll see it’s like here - lots of nooks and crannies that need different swell sizes and wind directions. Fresh west faces west so picks up any swell going but needs wind with an easterly persuasion to be at its best. During winter that means it’s often huge and blown out, although on saying that it’ll be firing from tomorrow to Wednesday

So it’s basically very cold central to southern nsw. But way more fickle and shadowed, less crowded, no doubt some magic spots on their day, arguably more picturesque and cultured.

So. Can we move on now? Or should be keep the shenanigans going?

Nah, resting my shoulder. I actually took a board down later but the wind was getting into it. Hoping to have it in shape for a quick getaway next weekend.
Some kook on a toy bodyboard without flippers got washed around in front of the cliffs. Apparently he was yelling out for help but no one could contact the Lifeguards. Some guys managed to get him to climb up the cliff. Another lid rider who had paddled over to help took his toy board around to Bronte.

The swell filled in today, quite north in orientation. Back beach was a little sorry for the increase, light cross shore and only working on the higher tide. General sweep to the south but not too strong. Bit of a struggle to nab a peaky one. Water was glorious though, maybe 22 deg or thereabouts.
Early this afternoon as the storm started brewing over pigeonhouse mountain we decided to surf back reef behind the island. The swell was a bit too north so the break had shifted across to 2nd reef, between back reef and main break. Just as we reached the rock off the wind squalled with the impending storm clouds and tore the peak to shreds. We went out regardless thinking the storm may blow over and shift the wind. It didn’t. After a few wind torn take offs and a few solid sets on the head we called it quits as the thunder and lightning was starting to make surfing look like a dumb idea.

Today was outrageous. Headies at dawn on the high, 2-3ft and glassy, a cool mix of surfers and bodyboarders getting into it. As I drove home I checked my local and the north end was looking like a little indo reef break left, so I jumped straight out again for an hour. Unreal!

Hasn't stopped breaking all day. Can hear it now, still some gas in the tank.

BD, you gonna be down over the long weekend? Might be heading to don hearn's

Not sure Wyre. Will be trying if there’s waves but will be considered a bit of a cnut if I do.
