what I mean by that is in my lifetime, less than a hundred Kays away there has been a huge coastal engineering project which involved four government bodies (NSW state govt, QLD state govt, Gold Coast City Council, Tweed shire council) and a private operator.
Rule of law?.....that was a legislative and administrative nightmare and they got through it.

And that followed on from another massive coastal engineering project up at Southport. Also in my lifetime.

Totally rejigged the coastline.

Both those projects created surf of almost unimaginable perfection and consistency.

Quite literally some of the best waves in the world.

Staggering engineering achievements.

In that context, a little Vwall or V reef at Tugun beach, say, is nothing.
None of it had anything to do with creating waves though, that was a by-product of the process and arguably largely a lucky coincidence. It also fcuked Kirra for a good deal of time.

Legion just got home from there. It was fun, amongst the closeouts.
Yeah, really I would have gone out if I could have. Maybe in a month or two.

Maintaining or improving recreational amenity is stipulated in the legislation and contracts tabled in parliament.
A large part of recreational amenity on the southern Gold Coast is surfing.

Advisory committees regarding this matter were formed and advise the contractors (McDonnell-Dowell).

It's publicly accessible information.

'Recreational amenity of the beaches' is the key phrase in the deeds and legislation, Steve.

Neither act, nor the original deeds, nor the schedules include any mention of waves or surf.
As far as I am aware the only mention of maintaining or improving surf in the original paperwork and planning is in a public works committee report.

What about fishos servicing soccer mums?
Any clauses covering that?
Otherwise it's an egregious breech of contract

With malice and forethought , denying all
"recreational amenities of the longtard."

Thats true but I've been in a room at GCCC with engineers and bureaucrats when surf amenity has been explicitly discussed in relation to recreational amenity of the beaches.
You may have too.

A more pertinent example is project Kirra in 2013, where Kirra Big Groyne was re-extended 30m to improve surf amenity.

"In 1996, the City removed 30 metres of Kirra groyne after the commencement of the Tweed River Entrance Sand Bypass Project. These works were undertaken to assist with the movement of increased volumes of sand resulting from the bypass project.

As the movement of sand along southern Gold Coast beaches returned to more natural levels, community stakeholders expressed a desire to improve recreational surfing amenity at Kirra Point, and that the City should consider reinstating Kirra Groyne to its original constructed length of 180 metres.

As a result, the City invested $800,000 in the reinstatement of the groyne to its original length. The works are a key element of the Mayor's strategic initiative to invest in the future management of Gold Coast foreshores and align to the City's Ocean Beaches Strategy".

That's not all that far from the truth, in Narrabeen and southern California at least.

Great news. Funding is pretty much under control and now Council Approval.
This clubhouse will be shared by Windansea and Caloundra Mal Club. But Windansea has been the prime moving force. Location is the park at the end of Buderim St, Currimundi. AKA Ann St.

***HISTORY MADE** this morning at the Nambour Council Chambers after 49 years strong of WindanSea. The Sunshine Coast Council vote 9 for and 2 against for the construction of our Clubhouse. We thank councillors @peter.cox & deputy Mayor Tim Dywer for the unwavering support.

That is good news for you, Trev. Congrats!

Kelly Slater. The last few years have perhaps tarnished the KS brand for some.
But this year! Winning unlikely heats!
On Tuesday, he is seen surfing on the Tweed Coast in Australia. On Thursday, he is in Brazil in crappy small waves winning his heat by out-hustling 2 young guns. At age 47. He really is a freak!
