Re: Where did you surf today ?
But look at you two chatting like grizzled Bondi locals! Give it another month or two and it might even start to sound convincing

Re: Where did you surf today ?
Hard core Bondi locals moved out about twenty years ago I reckon. There's plenty of locals but compared to say Bronte there's no real presence in the line up. Tons of Brazzos.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
down south was one of those days today. Conditions were so beautiful mid morning, no wind, groomed swell with some grunt, water about 19-20 degrees, clear skies and that magic sparkle in the air that only autumn brings. The waves, however, were appalling. The island was an old man with dementia, confused and hapless, back beach was crisp closeouts, out the front was the same and lake mouth was the only wave offering any consolation. After a short spell it also just switched off, too many straight ones and no banks to sort it out. After looking for a few with a corner the call was made for breakfast.
This afternoon was worse, light to medium onshore and a rapidly dropping swell from 2 sources which created a confused cancelling out. Consolation was watching the local sea eagle trying to scope a fish from a seal that had caught one in the line up.

Yeah, no doubt there would have been a few switching on SS, but i tend to haunt my local few spots once i'm here and don't hit the highway much in search of other surf, mostly due to the fact a lot of the reefs get a decent crowd and there's generally enough variety available locally, not today though.

Yeah, I'm the the same.
Been a dreadful, dreadful summer and autumn here......but up the road north of Byron to the QLD border there have been fun beach breaks.
fcuked if I can be bothered though to drive 45minutes to surf 3ft beach breaks.
I wouldn't last 2 weeks if I had to surf those junky Sydney beach breaks like Bondi or Maroubra.

Same down here, the odd flukey day but generally piss poor. No banks for months, sand movements a bit weird and not helpful for surf.steve shearer wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2019 7:48 pmYeah, I'm the the same.

I actually say Bondi is a bit like south beach Kingscliff when I'm trying to give some idea about it to people from up north. That's without the reef of course. You two should be ashamed of yourself not driving for hours by the way.

I can't believe how bad that analogy is beanpole.
They're both wet I guess.
Duck probably isn't legal to drive until mid afternoon so surfing locally is best for everyone.

Re: Where did you surf today ?
cool lil snively south bump today, clean. Sand is absolutely piled on the beaches. I don't know if the weather will ever break this coming winter. It might just stay warm, smooth, clear, and fcuking three foot forever.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
Same for me before the NE wind and no one else out
Re: Where did you surf today ?
If there's going to be a portrait of Nick entered into the Archibald Prize he's gotta be standing with his board ready to paddle out at the Peak and next to him stands an idiot interloper with a matey we're-all-surfers-together look about him while Nick's look of course aggressively says the exact opposite.Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Sun May 12, 2019 3:48 pmWell normally I am v much live and let live, they're not taking my waves anyway, but today they were so in the way. Three really excellent solid waves came through while I was out, I got all three, and on all three, five or six idiots paddled directly in front of me at the wave base.
I am afraid I talked to the last lot a little bit.
It started pre surf, which it never does! Some full on super kook, like an adult learner with a significant bank balance by the look of his expensive leisure wear and his athleisure clad chick, was standing at the lookout at Newport this morning, I jogged over to watch while I got changed. The guy catches my eye, and says in one of those jocular we're-all-surfers-together sorts of ways, "It's word-perfect Peak."
Like making the Call. I've never seen this guy and he's telling me about a spot I've surfed for almost 50 years.
I'm like, "Word-perfect Peak, eh?" In a tone of, yeah thanks for telling me, I would never have been able to assess the conditions without your advice.
Thank fcuk one of my mates rolled up right then.
Re: Where did you surf today ?
The idiot interloper could be someone high-up in Sydney finance say a Westpac CEO or someone like that who helicopters to work from his pad on the hill above Nick's house to work in the CBD in the morning and whenever he bumps into Nick on the beach on the weekend gives him the surf report for all the North Shore spots he gets to check on the commute.
