I think he gave each board a really good workout though and tried to surf it as it was designed to be surfed and quickly displayed the limits of each design.

Is that fair comment?
Not to be argumentative, I thought it showed an amazing surfer so hard wired to his board type that he could not get to grips with 80% of the boards. And that's why I thought this was great. Put Joel Tudor on Danes boards and it would have been fun. Saying all that Stephs seems to pick up different boards really easily, a question of subtlety and style, perhaps.
He was running up and down the midlengths... no points for style though

I wish they threw a loaded dome in the mix :P
Good idea, it would have ideally suited a man whose rear foot straddled the twin fin "V" behind the leash plug, I'm sure he would have appreciated riding from the tail and not having to move his feet

Why on earth would anyone want to dumb down one of the greatest surfers ever by making him learn how to ride a midlength the way a midlength wants to be ridden?
Exactly. The whole time it looked like he had the handbrake on. Totally the wrong DNA for those boards. They’d have been best off under the feet of a bunch of San Diego surfers with valiumed out skip frye styles.

I honestly would like to see someone like Dane surf one.

100%. Married to HPSB. He actually looked like someone who'd been surfing for a year on that single. He rips, I love his surfing, but he's not a very versatile surfer. Think about the progression of Nat Young etc...I think it was great because it shows just because you can rip on one type of board doesn't mean...blah blah..,you get my drift.

I saw enough to think he could ride midlengths perfectly and beautifully and better than just about everybody else. But, as he explained, particularly when surfing in front of the camera, if he did that he would feel like 'a poseur' and 'an asshole'.

Lol at you two. One of the most stylish, best surfers ever. As the guy in the clip said, 1% of the 1% of the 1%.

Apparently hit his head on the board.

Just saw this. He was one of my late Uncles best mates. They moved up from Cronulla at the same time.

He was hopeless on the first 2 to 3 boards. Killed it on the Neck Beard, all right on the Lost and great on the last two. Guys a gorilla. Low in style high in power.

I'll say it. There's a lot of board there. A major risk.
