The controversy about the cancellation due to sharks is not going away. Lot of fingers being pointed.
Its an exciting opportunity foregone that's for sure.
It would have introduced a whole new level of dramatic spectacle to surfing. This would have added to the excitement of surfing and made a motsa for Ziff. It would have ended up bigger than the running of the bulls... death in the afternoon indeed.
Just like in Pamplona a number of sharks would be released into the lineup every day. The temporada would of course begin at Margarets. Each day would begin with the release of El tiburón. A new sport with passion, bravery and skill that will test and reveal the character of all the participants.
As I said, what a wonderful spectacle and a great opportunity foregone

Blurb on swellnet, prolly on wsl page too.
Straight after Keramas comp, has to be finished by 13 June. Start date will depend on when Keramas finishes.

Just when Ulus was becoming a relatively quiet backwater this happens.

Shit, I think they're going to can it for the day... not a good call at all, tomorrow looks like being worse, especially in the morning.

I don't understand why they weren't surfing it earlier. The peak looked rubbish. You'd know better than me Cranky but if it's small I'd always go Temples or Racetrack.

I guess it's best to stay in front of the judges.

Too much water on the reef (1.6m at 4:30pm) for that small swell at Temples and Racetrack. Smaller swell and bigger tides tomorrow morning is not looking good. They could probably have run two more heats tonight.

Surely the judges can’t see much of racetrack, the surfer is virtually hidden from view at the best bit.
