I have to admit I am hoping that now they have started hacking away at the format, it dawns on them that they can just keep going.

Mikey's out. Wonder what happened there. Inexperience? Lack of stamina? Got distracted? Anyway it's a shame, but he killed it in those first heats. Will he be getting more wildcards this year?

And Griffin Colapinto seems to have composure beyond his years. Maybe he will make it as a pro surfer after all.

Adriano's looking great these days. I used to think of him as stocky and stiff, but he's looking slim and fit and loose now. Ripping!

I would love to be one of those kids standing on the rock watching this heat with Adriano in it at the end of this crazy long beautiful day! Coolangatta Gold!

How’s the grom asking Mick for an autograph and gets handed his board. Mick says nothing and just walks off. Knowing Coolie, someone’s probably already stolen it from him.

very impressive post-day wrap-up by joel, pottz and strider! those guys really work their arses off during these events. funny to think of strider shivering out there in the water all day and having to duck-dive wide-breaking sets in the middle of his commentary!

Nah, he and Troy Brooks had a very simple but effective strategy which he failed to execute.

Having been out at Snapper when it's like that, I reckon there is a bit of luck to being able to precisely deliver a heat strategy.

Strides helped me into the boat last year at Cloudbreak after I broke my board.
