I didn't surf nearly as much as normal last year, especially on the home front which had a very ordinary wave count indeed. The saving grace being a couple of surf trips that delivered nice waves and great company. This year has started well though. With a distinct "lake" of waves on the Goldie, I headed south and hooked up with a couple of mates. Surfed a 9'2" traditional log on the hight tide, caught a couple and then swapped out for a swallowtail quad kneeboard as the tide drained. As Crabmeat would so rightly say; it was the best of times and the worst of times.

Highlight surf wise last year was Fiji. Low point was probably snapping the rental there too.
Got plenty of waves at Crescent last week but Boxing Day Arvo was the best. I got one that opened up properly and allowed a speed nose ride from the take off to the clubhouse rather than your regular tacking type of nose riding.

Surf-wise, 2017 was a regression compared to 2016. My wave count dropped heaps. It was fitting that my last wave of 2017 was such a screw up as it pretty much summed up the year for me.

South Curlie, occasionly head high one outside. One or maybe two turns into the deep mid gutter. If you dont value your board, foam roll in to speed run on the inside shorey double up.

Given everywhere else is crap, a bit of fun to start the year.

Good storm just went through Ballina. Hate to be at Falls tonight.
Saw a bunch of blokes at South Wall waiting to paddle back across before the storm hit but there were dolphins doing weird shit in the middle of the river and they looked like they weren't keen.
Looks like they had to wait the storm out.

Had a better than expected session on the late at my local yesterday. I paddled out and the line up only had Japanese surfers.

super fun beachie peaks this morning. ran over a kook who refused to duckdive (while paddling for his life to the shoulder, ffs) and dinged me board.

that took the gloss off everything.

I'm an expert at paddling over the shoulder in time to avoid having to do a duck dive. I think I did more duck dives on my first day back at my local than I did in one week at a reef break in Indo.

Braithy wtf is it with that car park on the Palm Beach side of the Estuary Bridge over Currumbin Creek? 6.30 this morning when I went by it was packed out.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Its many things, an off leash dog beach, cafe, SUP central and a pirate ship play area. Oh, and access to Laceys too.

Well lets face it - indo reef breaks are a lot easier to anticipate where the shoulder is than beachies
Exactly. Though I am glad to be back over sand in summer.
