Today started off with such promise. Swell forecast was good, double overhead was on the cards, winds light offshore, high tide at 9am meant in the water at first light with a good 2 hours of uncrowded surf (too early for all the euro's)

I was in the water at first light, perfect conditions. Spectacular cloud formations, mount Agung visible above the cloud, thunder and lightning in one quarter, clear sky in other, a few light showers.

But no surf.
Waaahhh???

God damn it

3-4' surfing size. But even that is misleading. It invites comparison to 3-4' waves in other places, which is not appropriate because this is not like other kinds of surfing.

I'm going to write extensively elsewhere about the set-up and the experience of the place, which has been woefully under-explained, both in the WSL's highly curated videos and in the small interview clips that've been allowed with people who've ridden it.

So just wait for that.

Well, at least there's no blue bottles in Lemoore.
It's virtually unsurfable today down sth. 4 of us went out, all got stung, one wave each, that was it. It was a clusterfcuk of bluebottles. Impossible to dodge them. I've never seen this many on the sth coast. The beaches are blue.

Kind of groovy that bluebottles mostly getting around by sailing via their float. And there are left-handed and right-handed bluebottles. You can see wind hitting a pack and one lot will sail in one direction and the other sail in the other direction. Left-handed bluebottles sail to the right of the wind and vice versa.

Couldn't be more flies than Oz. Trouble with American flies, unlike their docile antipodean cousins, they bite like flying pirrhannas.
