All the highlights were covered in that 2 minute highlight clip, and they couldn't of cobbled together a separate 2 minute clip of half-decent waves. It was pretty much quick dull impossible closeouts all day.

. Any old numpty can surf a pointbreak.
Nah, you got that arse about. Any old numpty can surf close out beach breaks. Put highly skilled surfers in Point surf and the deficiencies or otherwise of skill and technique are immediately apparent.

So yes anyone can surf a Point like J-bay. Very few can surf it well.

Yeah nah. Put numpty on reeling snapper rocks. Numpty can get by ok and look somewhat proficient, just by holding a line, and turning when required. Put same numpty in 8 foot shutdowns. Numpty wouldn't have the timing and critical ability to manage a down carve into the bowl or quick check turn, let alone ride any of the makeable ones well.

The numpty can have a nice long ride on a good point wave. He wouldn't score any points though.

Loved Toledo spending half his heat paddling back out once, and copping sets on the head repeatedly
watching that live was super enjoyable, and I bet it didn't make the highlights reel

Kanoa looked way out of his depth. Actually, a few blokes did. So there's that I guess. But I'd still rather see them riding good waves, or at least waves that stay open for a bit.

Obviously everyone in the top 35 (or whatever it is these days) is a good competent surfer.
However: Pumping point break - only the best surfers bat deep.
Closeouts - bottom end can get lucky.

Who doesn't like some pros having their butts kicked in some heavy close outs. Nothing like a few pratfalls.

It's fun enough as a few highlights but to sit through 8 hours of it to see half a dozen made tube rides is lobotomizing.
