I thought Medina trolling Kolohe up the reef, body checking him and then doubling back to get a sick little tube was the best thing to happen all day and about the closest I've seen pro surfing get to an actual sport .....since.....since the last time he did it.

And while it's rare I've seen some pretty vicious hassling free surfing that shades that.

WSL should just capture the highlights and produce a 1 hour package on constant re run between events. The show can be sponsored and sold to pay and terrestrial TV
Man, tv doesn't buy stuff like this any more, they stopped doing that around 1984.
they run a 1hr highlights for mens and womens on a sunday every now and then on 9. its pretty shit.

Seriously though watching 5- 10 full days of coverage for an hour of gold is pretty boring for the non surfer. Isn't the point to engage the non surfers. It's cheap, put the thing of rotation every second night on Fox etc.

Loof, you have really grown into Olympian heights of character development. You're still a tard but damn if you're not an entertaining tard. Love your work.

NC, Kraig.

The possibility of the tour behind a paywall? Does the WSL think there are that many people keen to cough up to watch an event?

it would end in tears.

the amount of people watching the events have been on a steady decline since the World Tour went from ASP to WSL. Core surfers are turned off by the mainstream attempt to popularise surfing. Australians are tuning out due to the americanisation (and seriousness) of the production.

wsl must be putting all their eggs in the cashed up brazilian market, because not many aussies will buy it.

i have zero interest in the wsl until they change the event & heat formats. I've totally lost interest in watching it. If I didn't have to touch base with it all for work, i wouldn't know any results!

I don't buy that. Do you have figures to back the steady decline Crabby? Regardless of the comp format (same as before basically) and the cheesy friendly sanitised presentation thing they insist on (also same as before), the comps have never been better. Almost everything about the presentations is better. More cameras, more angles, faster, better replays, more specialist analysis from guys like Barton and Thompson. The internet version of the comps is way better than it was a few years ago. For the most part it's also the same surfers as 5 years ago, besides a few rookies. The venues haven't changed either. What's the difference? Do you have figures? Be interested to see if there is a difference.
