ah man ... the banks here are looking tattered ... hard to positively identify.

but burleigh looks like it's breaking wider, the sand behind the rock is gone at the alley and the beachies already look like the big storm gutter has formed.

if that synoptic comes off, we'll have 6-8ft of swell up here but maybe no where with a bank left to hold it.

Gloves and hoods make the surfing experience measurably shitter. Ergo, avoid them for as long as possible. If 15 degrees is your personal cut-off, perhaps surfing isn't for you
hoods are fine. anything that protects your ears from getting drilled.

gloves on the other hand should never be worn. Even if it's 8 degree water and minus 5 with wind chill. that's a no to gloves.

I'm tactfully skirting the male pattern baldness/hood thing. Perhaps there's a market for lycra sun hoods? Maybe with a realistic, full-head-of-hair design?
If you don't patent this I will. That's a million dollar idea right there.

flinders?
Nah that time was Point Leo, been struggling with a bitchy AC joint of late so needed something tamer. Flinders last weekend was a lot better

Cyril's and Meanos are both really good waves
Still are mate. A good thing as the beachies are all over the place. I've spent the last 15 years wishing Gunnamatta would return to it's mid-nineties glory but it's not going to happen

The internet tells me that the water temp is 15 degrees in Flinders at the moment. What sort of spastic wears gloves in 15 degree water? It's like wearing a hood when you don't have to. Simply moronic
We're not conditioned to it like you Brits! And that morning when I paddled out was a balmy 2 degrees!

It looks good everyday fore the next week and possibly more! Yesterday was the best for quite sometime and uncrowded, they all frothed to early :).

Water is warm, still wearing 3/2 sealed, no hood or booties :) Up early for another one.

will the banks allow for this kind of frivolity?

I'm looking forward to the next gangbusters big south groundswell with south winds. Whilst that mix is far from ideal conditions for nearly everywhere down here, I've got a couple of new (sheltered) spots that I've only recently started to get dialled in. One is a slab reef that scares the living shit of me, even at three foot. The other is an outerbank, a rivermouth breakwall set up that does a claytons impersonation of greenmount - it has my new single fin written all over it, and I'm craving to get it in some semi serious overhead surf.

I like sunny weather and the offshore winds but is just a few waves in the middle of winter too much to ask for?
