Ocean users are reminded to be #sharksmart with a large white shark detected multiple times on Ballina and Lennox Head VR4Gs in recent days....
Sharksmart? what does that even mean?

nose to the wind and see if you can smell trouble before entering the water.

DPI Fisheries advise: tagged white shark detected by Sharpes Beach, Ballina receiver at 07:04:00 AM (AEDT) on 28-Jan-2017
I think this is the same white, hanging around like a bad smell.
Again, I see the pod of dolphins at the north end of Sharpes every day just landward of the receiver station and I can't help but think this white must be preying on dolphins...
This was the summer pattern before Tadashi got taken, except we didn't have tagged sharks, we had anecdotal reports from fishermen of a large white(s) hanging around off the back of Lennox Point and other close reefs. To be honest I dismissed them, thinking there was no way a large white would be be here in summer: not enough mammalian prey for them. Obviously they are quite happy here all year around and quite happy to come in to super shallow water in the surf zone.
Anyhow there is a net right next to that receiver buoy so that shark and that pod of dolphins may have worked out it is there and have learnt to avoid it. Or that sharks cruising pattern may be inshore or offshore of the net configuration.

Apparently Dorsal has tried to get the shark number for the receiver pings with little success.

I wonder why DPI refuses to release the info.......maybe because it would pour shitt on theories that these sharks aren't "territorial".
I mean if it was the same 4m white just hanging around and that was provable it would make it very easy for people to call for the removal of the problem shark.
Also if that shark did bite someone and DPI hadn't acted it would make an interesting legal or at least moral case.

I agree a critical piece of information is If it is the same one hanging around. This flies in the face of what the "experts" say.

Wouldn't you find bits of dolphin about if the GW was preying on them?
The trouble with data is to work out frequency they would be looking at the whole picture before hazarding to make a claim. So there might be a trend but that wouldn't be enough to justify them making a statement that it was happening. Tough titties while you wait for that to be crunched though.

they made a commitment to transparency though, so why not publish that information if they have it?
I think that what is happening is actually showing all the official recommendations about avoiding shark attack, all the theories they have about the reasons for increasing attacks etc etc etc are probably wrong. And they are reluctant to release that information because of that reason.
