Hey
Don't know if any one can help me but last week I was healthy fit and surfing 2/3 times a week ,this week its like I'm having a bad dream and I need to get woken up.
Any way I need to know does anyone surf while taking warfarin.
Defo need to be able to look forward to the thing that I've loved for the last 43 yrs(surfing)

Re: Warfarin
Hi go hard, being a veteran of 4 heart attacks I am also on (different) blood thinning medication, That's the only thing I know about warfrin, I think once they get the dosage alright for you, it will be right, having said that listen to your your heart specialist not us kooks on the internet.
I had my first heat attack at 40 the another 18 months later and the another 3 months later, then a minor episode about 6 years on I'm 57 now. I lost 30% of my heart function so it has to work a bit harder, my specialist told me it's a muscle use it!! I surf everyday I can, recovery time hurts more but I might just be getting old. good news is no one is going to tell you to get up off the couch when you feel like an afternoon nap, I've been milking that for many years now.
Did you have an attack?

Re: Warfarin
I surf with a guy who's a month younger than I am (he's 69 next month).
He's had open heart surgery three times. I don't know what he's taking but it's a lot of different pills. Surfs regularly, including in the local mal club comp and things like the Noosa Festival of Surfing.
He get's breathless at times and just has to rest. He's surfing with his heart surgeon's approval.

You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: Warfarin
I'm not a doctor, but the issue with the anticoagulant warfarin is that you bleed for longer and get bigger bruises. Exercise is good, but it is recommended you avoid sports that regularly cause cuts, concussion or heavy bruising. e.g. boxing, football, skateboarding etc.
Do you get commonly get cuts, concussion or bruising when you surf? If not, it is probably fine. You might want to avoid rocks and reefs in shallow water.

Re: Warfarin
Firstly thanks for all responses .
No I didn't have a heart attack I've been diagnosed with Bicuspid Aortic Valve disease.
It means that I have a faulty aortic heart valve which I was born with and is finally giving up,thing is I have no symptoms but have regurgitation (back flow)and need open heart surgery ASAP.I can deal with recovery but need hope that I will surf again.

Re: Warfarin
Well it s been about 6mths of waiting been through OHS and now recovered back at work and back in the water which is great, have got my fitness back and feeling good.
Warfin is a blood thinners and Drs will tell you that you won't be able to surf because if you hit your head or cut your self you'll bleed or bruise badly. Any way it's not that bad you can carry on as normal just don't late take off on reef and be a little more cautious.
There is hope .

Re: Warfarin
Another advantage is that the risk of blood clots arising from long haul economy-class airline travel is lessened while on wharfarin. The doctors will always tell you to not ride a bike or surf so as to cover themselves. Everything in life has risk attached so no point in cocooning yourself and missing out on fun.
