Never too old, Nat's older than that bloke and rides a shortie.
yeah I've met a few guys late sixties going on gromhood that rip.

never use Nat Young as an example for anything, best if he was erased from surfing history. Met him a few times over the years, larger than life loudmouth dickhead, much the same for his son too.

Funny you should say that shaun.

I always take people as I find them. Only had contact with him twice.
Once, waaaaay back, surfing at the Alley, Currumbin. He just slotted into the line up, chatted a bit and pretty much took his turn with the other better surfers out there.
Second time was at the showing of Endless Summer 2 at Warringah Mall.
The theatre wasn't busy - early in the afternoon. My daughter and I went, sat ourselves down and before the show started, a family group came in and the "father" sat next to me with his extended family in our row and the one in front.
I have to say the whole lot of them were pleasant and well behaved.
No loudmouthing anywhere.
And when on the screen Nat appeared, there was no cheering, fist pumping or smart alec comments at all.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

I take people as I find them to trev and I found him loud and obnoxious and liked to hold court. I surfed with his son Bo, only the three of us out, greedy wave hog on a mal, made no effort to even acknowledge us, the other guy told me after he was gone who he was.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Nat but I have had a similar surf experience with Beau up at Tallows years ago. He snaked the waves on a mal from the inside and if he was on the outside he just dropped in anyway. He showed absolutely no respect for anyone else in the water. Just a prick.

I've surfed with beau about 10 times, we used to frequent the same point.
He paddles like a shark and I swear to God I saw him overtake a wave from behind to catch it.
He was down the line from me so I can't comment on the snaking or dropping in factor, but back when he was Longboard world champion and before he discovered soul arching on 5'6" doors he had really good style.

I had one of his wombats and it was really fun on a point but a bit one dimensional and not remotely suited to the Sydney beach breaks I was trying to surf it in.

Great surf style no doubt. I've surfed 2 of his boards the Wombat II being one of them. True it was ok on a point and rubbish on wind swell beach breaks. It had a really nice cut back with a 2+1 configuration but was generally a bit of a dog.

Re: snaking and insane paddling ability. I've heard the same about Neal Purchase Jr, in that he just froths and will paddle for everything and jags them all and hence has an amazing wave count. I guess it's a case of if you're good enough take my wave but if you're not bad fuckibg luck.

Personally I think he has an extraordinarily crap longboard style. Does good stuff on a wave but always looks awkward.
A wave hog is a wave hog. If they do it for a living it makes it worse IMHO. It's one thing to get all the best waves....it's another to go so feral that you must get every wave that comes through.
His old man had a much better style on a mal...definitively better.

Funding has been allocated to study the 'buried whale' theory. Some commonsense for a change.

Looks like they got 5 mid sized whites on the "smart" drumlines from evans head to lennox. From Thursday to sunday. Tagged and released. Should be interesting results over the next few weeks.

They tagged 5 just on Friday, lots of sightings.

This one was seen within 30 metres of surfers at The Pass this morning. It was herded away.
