I have had a few surfs on it now and I have had a few mixed results a couple of sessions it felt good and others I struggled to turn it well. It paddles well and goes fast down the line as you would expect, but I am still getting the hang of turning it. I have really only surfed it in peaky beachies and haven't had a crack on a lined up point break yet which is what I made it for so hoping it will perform on the points through summer.

Hey Davros & Steve, any chance of a mini merk review as I am thinking of getting one when Malcolm comes back out (hopefully next year)? What are the dims, how they ride, conditions that you prefer to ride them in etc

Thanks in advance

Hi Jam no Merk but I'd like to hear from Steve, I think Batoes may have one.

I'm loving my DVS boards, going to get a short Mad Wasp.

See the alpha omega? Woah. Its the kind of board that if you got, you'd never wanna ride anything else, or you'd sell it after one surf. There'd be no middle ground. Looks insane though.

New Campbell brothers website, cool stuff in the history section: http://bonzer5.com/boards/

Yeah, the alpha omega looks sweet! I have an MIni light vehicle & those crazy bottom contours work so good, I imagine it d be either totally insane on a twinny or you d break your neck!

How short you thinking Davros? I had a 5"6 a couple of years back. If u get one from Dick, the dims will be a mystery & it might be asymmetrical which is all trendy now..... You ll be all cool & hipster like :)

The new site is great, different models to boot.

I like the look of the Octofish but I seem to get on better with boards that don't have flyers, they look cool and hold better but I think a board like that for me would be better with more freedom in the tail. But who the fuck am I.

I have a couple of DVS's. Yeh no dims which I kinda like as I have a tendency to over analyse (see comment above). Size wise I just leave to the man, he pretty much gets a few details and says " yeh I'll make you something that will go well" that approach from a psychological point of view has really freed my mind to just focus on catching as many waves as possible (not sure if I'm making sense). Anyway hooked on his boards just now.

How does it fit into your quiver? Preferred conditions/waves that u take it out in? I ve got an MLV which is so much fun in the smaller stuff so was thinking that a merk in the 6" region might be a good alrounder for SE Qld/tweed beachies & points.

Been looking through the new website & it sounds like the merk could be the shizzle but so do so many bonzer designs! The russ short looks sweet as well

Thanks

I havent honestly ridden it enough to give you any insightful feedback. Its a really good shortboard with some foam in it.. I like it 3-5ft waves..

Thinking of trading my 6'2 mini merk in for a 6'4 egg.

Although the website has been updated it doesn't really talk too much about rockers or which waves the models are suited too.

My back is deteriorating and boards under 6'0 are seeing less use than they used too.

Spend most of my time on my 7'7 single fin.

Need a good paddler for when the beachie is 3' plus and duck diving the 7'7 gets too hard.

My mini merk is 6'2 x 20 x 2 5/8

Thinking of a 6'4 x 20.5 x 2.5 for 3'+ beaches and Cronulla point.
Weighing 80kg +/-
Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.

You had a 6'8" egg didn't you? Daily driver on the east coast? Or needed a good wave ? Should have enough for a newy next few months. Love eggs but just don't know about the bonzer thing as a daily driver compared to a more contemporary 2+1 middy

Beery, I had some really fun good clean waves on that board. But it felt a bit long and stiff (oh Matron) in anything under 3/4ft or in junky stuff. Personal view I reckon the DVS elongated lower railed Wasp went in anything.
