I've assumed it's light scattering/refraction/attenuation, but since you ask, I've asked Dan via email. I'll get back to you

The forum's favourite surfboard, ridden by Craig Anderson.

The Talk Story event at Freshwater Beach on tomorrow and Saturday has some pretty impressive participants. Paul Strauch, Joey Cabell, Fred Hemmings, Mark Cunningham, Brian Keaulana, plus a raft of Aussies including Nick Carroll etc etc

But, Joey Cabell! A legend to me.

Below is sadly the best version of the photo I could find on the internet, but this classic photo of Joey Cabell at Angourie in 1964 was probably my favourite surfing photo as a young teen in the 70's when I first saw the photo in a surfing book. It still resonates for me.

Interesting that nobody would be seen dead with that stance on a board these days yet is seems perfect for that era.
When it gets to this level of self important stupidity I lose interest.

I don't think that was Cabell's usual stance. But, he came from the U.S with a reputation as the new, fast, smooth stylemaster. He quietly went out in the little-known, fast, bowling, tubing rights of Angourie, probably not ever having surfed a wave quite like it, in a day when there wasn't a lot of under the lip surfing, and instinctively rode those winding tubes beautifully and probably in a way that no one had quite ridden them before. Absolute legend.
