epoxy glassing gold coast/tweed area

Post by scot » Tue Oct 29, 2013 3:34 pm

Hey guys,
Anyone know where a good place to get a board glassed with epoxy?
I have had a block of eps in the garage for a few years waiting for me to get the time / motivation to shape another board.
I am just going to bite the bullet and get it cut on a machine and get it glassed properly. My last effort was ok but not the best and it took ages to finish.

Cheers,
Scot

Thanks saltman.
wingnut, so far I am still in the planning stages.
I have an eps block and a shape3d design.
Not sure how to attach them. tried to upload the pdf printouts but cant see them.

I'll take photos and post as I go.

Ah, I figured out that the measurement on the bottom of the pic is to the midpoint...
Was a bit worried you might need one for each foot.

Looks fun. I'd like one in about 5'6"

Good luck with the board. Are you going to compensate for the extra float of the EPS, or just keep it the same as what you would a normal PU board?

My own thoughts re EPS are:

- You can lower the rails or reduce overall thickness slightly to balance out the extra float and pop so the board does not sit too high on top of the water.
- You can go a bit shorter than normal.
- You can get away with a bit less rocker due to the way the EPS flexes and responds.

Or you can ignore all the above and just surf it as per your PU specs with a bit more float and pop. Around an extra 8-10% float relative give or take.

Post up some pics when complete.

Natho,
I hadnt actually thought about that too much.
I dont think it will make a lot of difference in this case. Its not a HSPB, more of a cruiser. I have been riding a 6'9 egg for a while as I have been recovering from injuries so was just trying to get something that fitted into the blank i already have.
I did thin it out from the original 2 3/4.
I'll see how it feels under the arm after its shaped and might have to revisit.

Thanks for the input.

wingnut, yeah the initial shaping will be done on a machine but i can still adjust it a bit by hand if needed before glassing.
I am struggling to visualise what it will feel like in real life just from the 3d view in shape3d.
I have a few versions of the same basic shape ranging from 5'10 to 6'2. at the moment i am leaning towards the longer / narrower version.
where do you get yours cut?
