That is the most plausible explanation I have heard.Biggun wrote:In all seriousness, the blame for the parlous state of affairs in Bali lies solely with all the euro chicks who want, nay need, their brains bonked out by aussie surfers...this unbridled lust precipitated the migration of mincing, tri-hard euro surfers who followed their lost women down the backpacker trail...followed by everyone else
Europe, an entire continent of dickless wonders.
Man, how many threads can I get that phrase into????????????????

Jeez you wouldn't say that to the Mundaka boys.oldman wrote:Europe, an entire continent of dickless wonders.
They'd probably come around to your house and blow it up.
Meanwhile I think Bali's current state is probably Gina Rinehart's fault, she's insanely rich and a bit scary-looking, so fcuk it -- she'll do.

....and Clive Palmer.
I went to Kings Cross and there were drunks, druggoes and hookers everywhere. Australia is one rooted place. I don't know how anyone lives on that island.

Interesting. I didn't know that. In Bahasa Malaysia bisa does mean animal poison, and "racun" is poison.Indo dreaming wrote: Actually bisa is used in Bahasa Indonesia for poison also but not poison from bottle thats racun, but bisa is poison from like animal like snake venom.
But it definitely isn't used to ask a question in Bahasa M.Indo dreaming wrote: offcourse bisa more commonly used to ask question.
Well more than 70 years of the languages growing apart led to this. Of course, things would have been different if the Indonesians got their way with the Confrontation in the early 60s when they wanted Malaysia to be part of Indonesia.Indo dreaming wrote: funny how the bahasa malay words are often very similar in subject matter but totally different in meaning.

@Petulance
You mentioned you spent time in Medan, was there local dillect similar to Bahasa Malay?
(ive only been there overnight on way to Nias/telo's)
I ask because Bahasa Minang in Padang area i think is similar, well its similar to Bahasa Indonesia, not all words offcourse but some words are the same and some words very similar, while most local dilects in indonesia are totally different to bahasa Indonesia or Bahasa Malay.

I don't remember the local dialects in Medan, though I did know that there was a Batak tribe living there. I only remember having conversations in English / Bahasa when I was there.
One interesting thing I noticed in Medan was the presence of Indonesians of Chinese origin. They spoke the Chinese dialect of Hokkien.
It is possible that both Bahasa Malaysia and Indonesia derived from the Minang (or Mnangkabau) people as they have a presence on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Though in Malaysia, they all get lumped under one ethnic group called "Malay" while in Indonesia the groups maintain their own identity (Achenese, Bugis, Javanese, etc).
