Displacement hull boards
Hey everyone,
Name's conor. Im from victoria, surf mainly the east coast, and ride all types of boards, favoring longboards alot of the time. So theres my intro... now a question..
do any of you guys ride displacement hull single fins? if so, who shaped it, what kind of surf do you usually use it in, how does it go..? etc.
Im pretty keen on getting one.
cheers conor

Re: Displacement hull boards
Gday mate
I ride them, not much though. You need 1-4 feet walls, not to hollow and not to fat.
Very perculiar feeling, not for everyone. you can slash, but mostly it requires doing nothing but riding high, low and tight in the pocket. If you don't like that you will hate hulls
Sea Biscuit 6'9" and been riding a 6'9" Vouch.
Also a 6'9" Dale S deck- Australian hull from 1969

Re: Displacement hull boards
Thanks for the replies guys. I very briefly tried one around 7'2 last year at cape conran, it was fun, but I didnt really surf it enough to get a real feel of it. Felt quite glidey though. The surf also was a little big for the board.
yeah its sick. alex knost rides them pretty well too in some vids i think.carpet wrote:never ridden one but you should check out one california day, there is a sequence of jimmy gamboa at the bu ripping on one.

Re: Displacement hull boards
Matt Keane has just done 2 for Beachbeat at Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine coast.
One's a stubbie- 6'2" X 22" X 2&1/2"
The other is a 6'10" X 21 (something) X 2 &5/8" (if memory serves).
Both have the single boxes but have side bite FCS plugs as well.
Veru much in the Sea Biscuit style.
The price is only $695 I think for the stubbie and $795 for the 6'10" so not prohibitive to give them a go.
The Sea Biscuit will be over a grand.

Re: Displacement hull boards
Thanks for that cuttlefish, that seems like a pretty good price. Ive seen a couple of Matt Keanes boards and they looked like they were shaped really well.
Huie that board looks sick. did you shape it for yourself or for a customer?

Give Woodsy a call and twist his arm to take some photos to email to you.
Me, I'm more into my overvolumed Dick Van carbon fibre all rounders. Reckon I'd drown on a thin hull.
