Jordy Smith

Post by Lard Lad » Wed Apr 28, 2010 9:02 pm

can he win a world title?

wrong sticker on the nose of his board to ever have a shot in the rip-some-quik-bongs WCT?

or, hit too many branches falling out of the tree?

or does he surf so well that they'll eventually pay it?

so he just do the Cold Water Classic events and shoot vid's for the 'warmest wetsuit ever' the rest of the year (did you notice it's now a 3.5/2.5mm and not a 3/2mm which maybe justifies the advertised claim)?

discuss, whether you care or not? :|

Top 5 surfers in the world in rippable waves for sure along with Taj, Dane, Parko, Kelly, JOB...maybe number 1 or 2 with Dane

got every trick in the book and awesome hacks. my just struggle in under 2 foot. havent really seen him in the juice either.

To be complete have to dominate like Andy and Slatz in the big hollow juice too..not on that level yet

I don't think Jordy has any issues in hollow lefts .
He may not make it far at either Pipe or Chopes but it won't be from not having a dig or not being able to ride the barrel ..............it will only be heat strategy .

And really who is at the same level as Slater or Irons in hollow lefts ...... :?: :?: :?:

Nobody :!:

Jordy doesn't have half the backhand that Dane has.
He might have a slight, oh so slight advantage in down the line >6ft right handers just due to the volume displacement in his top turns.
He doesn't quite have the top turn variety , explosiveness or turn speed that Dane has.....in certain situations his boards look under-volumed and he looks ponderous.

He's also not as smart as Dane and despite Dane's boho inclinations his natural intelligence can't help but figure out how to win heats, no matter how much Bukowski he reads.
Dane's performance at Pipeline last year showed something very special was on the cards in big hollow lefts.
I speak of his double armed backside layback takeoffs to no hands tube-riding.

If he dials his specs in at Chopes I put him as a serious contender if he doesn't get knocked by one of the Tahitian wild cards or Bobby/Hopgoods etc etc.
I want Nightclub Dwight dead in his grave I want the nice-nice up in blazes

Dane is one talented tube rider thats for sure ........
But sorry Steve I must have missed something .................where/why are we comparing Dane to Jordy ......... :?: or their intelligence

I reckon its his destiny - his entire life is orientated to win a tittle. Reynolds a freak but then again so is Parko for different reasons and yet to grab one, but plenty of time for all 3. Parko and Smith will win a tittle I reckon and Surf Vault in years to come will run a special on Shane Horan, Rob Macho and Dane Reynolds as the best surfers never to win a world tittle but each probably wouldnt care and hence why they are great to watch.
