i've watched taylor v jordy heat cuople times now. taylor did at l;east 5 big hacks that od have thought scored well, he also rode the waves well better than jordy i thought. anyhow been some strange scoring this contest in my opinion

Interestingly, the stream works fine off the Bigpond site link - but there are no scores.
Me either.
It's funny huh, this is the first event in Oz that I've pretty much managed to avoid seeing live for the past 10 years ... and viewing it entirely from outside is proving a most intriguing experience.
From a ht/technical POV I think you don't want to be too quick to write off Kelly and his new gear, though its weaknesses (tendency to snap rather than arc through top turns - a classic 4-fin thing - plus a lack of back-end lift thanks to the narrow tail) were a bit on display from what I could see on the replay they had up on the site this morning. The thing is when you're trying new stuff your performances tend to be a bit uneven. Nobody was chortling at KS's expense after his D-Bah show. But you know he's gonna actually have to work for this number 10, even if he can manage it. You would not want to give Mick or Joel the sniff of a lead because they're both looking like complete thoroughbreds right now.
i think joel is looking very sharp as well. . reading the waves well and finding sections to score on.
mick is also on fire.
15 heats to go, should be quite a show!
p.s maybe julian something more to show

I agree that first exchange Jordy gets an 8 and Knox gets a 5.7 or something and they were at best very similar waves in the context of how they were ridden. Hmmmmm.

Yeah, I am yet o see Jordy really rip a wave apart with flow and power, he seems to have all the tricks and moves but it doesnt seem to flow together ike some of the real shredders, Taylor is much better to watch in my opinion...He almost can look a little goofy and clumsy sometimes and dont think he is as good as the hype is making him out to be ...Dane is better but this year could be a good one especially if Kelly doesnt get an early lead but I think when Kelly has confidnce in whatever he chooses to ride he will still win the title...

Yeah, used to spray boards for about 5 years and did a few copies and my versions too, they used to sell really well when he was popular....

Got to agree on the Jordy thing - few big moves but never links them smoothly.
By comparison, I thought Taj was fantastic in his last heat; fluid, fast, innovative (bit like he was at Trestles).
I think people are underestimating how hard the conditions were in Slater's heat with very few of the waves linking through the inside double up. Wilson got the only decent waves of the heat
The whole thing will be completely up in the air if it goes to Kirra as predicted

Does anyone know what a "claim" is? Does it score more points or is it just saying "Look at me-I'm wonderful"?
BTW- Kirra is starting to line up nicely!

I just watched the replay of the Hobgood and Jihad heat. That must have been the most overscored heat in pro surfing history. Eights and nines were given to both for not much...

That heat set the scale for perhaps the most erratic, schizophrenic and bizarre judging I've ever seen.
And how the fcuk did they miss showing Dane's last wave.
DanW....whats the diff?
What they are surfing now is basically a close-out with the odd one staying open.
KIrra would have handled this swell easily.

Why are they generally so hopeless? Kelly Slater comes on and immediately makes more sense than anyone...not 'cause he's KS but because he's watching what's going on.

The best commentary team by a country mile I've heard is TC and Slater.
Insightful, funny and accurate.
Todd Kline makes me gag.
How come TC isn't there this year?
Quarters are on.....my money is on a finish today.....tomorrow's gunna be a Noosa- only day.
