That article about Shaw Mead actually came up at work this week. The coastal modelers all shredded the designs, and said there's no point building with anything except rock.

Sand is a fluid and it's pretty hard to build with fluids.
You can direct the flow, ala groynes and pumps, but it needs a constant input to maintain a favourable shape, whether that's natural flow or man-made.

Surely that’s the reason that the Superwank is the best example of a successful man made wave? The ability to pump sand at will.

And fuck up every other break north of it ... North Kirra used to have some great surf until they started pumping all that sand.

Accidentally made wave. Like the groin. Neither was designed to make the surf better. The topography keeps on giving though. Back in the day Snapper was just the take off sometimes. Rarely connected. Rainbow was a distinct wave very similar to Tea Tree. Greenmount broke down the side of the headland with a few boulders popping up on the inside. Sometimes broke hollow across into Coolangatta Beach if the banks were right and a big swell. Kirra broke way closer to the rocks in front of the shed.

They don't really have that ability, though.
They can only pump what they catch now, about 60% of the natural bypass rate.

If they had a huge slurry pond and taps to turn on and off I'd agree.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Scomo stops possible mining off the Sydney/Newcastle beaches - must be an election coming.

John Florence wins the Pipe Pro final heat that includes his brother, Ivan.
JJF won the Haleiwa event a fortnight ago so he’s going OK.
