Time for a new surfboard....Woop

Post by Zaffa » Fri Nov 24, 2006 2:53 pm

Hope you guys can help me out. I'm looking to get a new board quite soon and would like to get one shaped as I haven't seen quite what I'm looking for off the rack. I currently ride a 6'10 19 3/4 with a semi rounded nose. Not exactly high performance but I like it

I would like to get something similar but a 6'8. can anyone recommend a shaper in the Manly/Northern beaches area? I reckon a guy with a more old school otlook rather than a shaper who does high performance tooth picks

thanks !!

(just moved this from General Surf discussion cos I have noticed that there are some threads here discussing exactly the kind of board I am looking for e.g silver bullet. Also nobody will say I should be riding a 6'0!

Should be ridin' a 10'

Try a Grant Miller waterskate or sumpin. Millers on the northern beaches - good bloke and will listen to what you want.

Not really local these days but I'll put in a plug for Mark Rabbidge. Give him a call. He's a good shaper.

thanks for the help guys - haven't had a new board in about 4 years and the old one is looking decidedly ropey with laughably amateur home repair jobs and duct tape holding it together!

Mark Gnech in Narrabeen. He understands how to make bigger boards that go well.

He just made me a couple of different boards at 6'8 x 19 5/8 x 2 1/2. The extra volume is hidden nicely.

PM if you'd lke his number.

I have a 6'8" waterskate and works well for me , a friend has a 6'4' and he's happy too. Does exactly what they say it will on the website. Certainly worth a look.

Zaffa try one of the 7S Super Fish XL's the 6'8 would do you. I think a few of the stores on the northern beaches have demo models you can try out. I am sure you will like it.

I'll Third, Grant Miller, he's a great Australian craftsman, who always has time to have a chat about your needs. He's now shaping at Mona Vale.

Also, chat to Mark Rabbidge - www.retrolongboards.com.au who is another fine craftsman.

Miller'd be good. McCoy (at Byron he's really on the far, far northern beaches ;)) is also good. Rabbidge is good. Simon Anderson as well (but he's Gold Coast now isn't he?). And Webber with the CD does a good board, but having him custom shape is problematic I believe, and his store boards have quality problems imho.
