Mal Car
Ok so im buying a car soon and just wanted to know my options.
Anyone know what car I would be able to fit a 10 foot board + other smaller boards into?
I was thinking maybe an old toyota landcruiser troop carrier, or maybe an econovan..... The troop carrier would be nice because that way when I go on some trips, ill have the 4wd option.

I have no problems fitting my 7ft 6 board into my 1991 Commodore (VP) sedan so long as I fold down the front seat.
With a station wagon you could fit a lot more in as well. Get one on LPG and you will save money on fuel too.
Vans and the like you can take your pick but they are focused more on volume and not length so a lot won't do the job for a big board even though they may look it. Resale value is crap too, ride and fuel efficiency aren't good either. 4WD's are worse and running costs are sky high too.
Failing all that a decent set of roof racks on a wagon or roll bars in a ute behind the cabin and at the back of the tray will work.

I fit my 10' mal in my Commodore wagon easy, along with a few other sizes. As someone else suggested, fold the front seat down and put the noses of the boards into the footwell. They fit in easier, your vision out the passenger window is better and you don't get sun damage from them resting on the dash or against the window. Put your towel or something on them when you park, as the sun pumps though the windscreen. I sometimes put a boardbag across the windscreen as well when I park to keep the heat and sun out - too slack to have picked up those windscreen shades.

Reminds me, one day I had my mal and a friends, both in bags but up at the windscreen with me manouevring from the back, pushed down on the tail a little too hard didn’t I put a spider web in the windscreen that was huge, had to get the whole thing replaced

My old magna fitted 9'2" easy with the seat down.
New car however had previously been fitted with extended head rests in the back which aren't removable or adjustable :? As I found out after purchase :?
You can fit heaps of boards in but you have to go through too much crap to do it because the passenger side seat can't go back when the back seat is down and the boards can't slide over the back seat when its up.
If I didn't have to worry about passengers it would be a sinch to leave it down permanently. I actually bought it for its extra length and capacity but onto the roof they go until I work out another strategy.
Buy an old wagon and thrash it to death. If you buy a magna which are cheap beware of the timing chain which makes the engine sound like a truck when it needs replacing and costs heaps to replace. Thats why I sold mine and there are heaps out there.

Car for a Mal
I can tell you a 10 footer won't fit in a Caravelle. Only thing it will fit in is a Long Wheel Base Transporter and then it will be laying diagonally on the floor. Won't fit in a Kombi. How far can you go or do you wanna go with it laying along the seats next to you. It'll be too long for overhead internal racks as well. 9'6 will fit overhead in a LWB Transporter. Could buy a new board. Would be cheaper option.
Ive had my licence for a few months now...my dads a panel beater and he is mates with a VW specialist so my ride is pimped for everLongboarder wrote:When you get a little bit older Longygrom you will realise they may look cool when everyone rolls into town for a mal comp in their kombi but for how many times they break down there not worth it. Arr to have dreams.
soon the WRX engine, chromies and massive subs nar ill prob keep it original so i can still do the backroads up the north coast.
