Get bogged on a Bellybogger

Post by WET DRIFT » Tue Apr 17, 2007 5:18 pm

Hey, my brother has been riding 'boggers since the early 80's. I rekon they are anchors but he swares by them. He had a couple of the old design but they got stolen, now he is on his second of the new gen ones. (The first one folded at Lovers, Yamba NSW), he says the second is starting to flex also. A guy called Dick Ash is responsible for putting these "boards" on the market... After riding em Ill stick to some thing from the present age...

I was on the north shore of Oahu in 2000. The surf wasn't great and my girlfriend (now wife) wanted to look around a bit so we took the bus around the island to Makapu'u on the east side. Swell was about 5 foot there and a number of Hawaiians were riding these sorts of paipo craft from out the back right through to the shorey. Bloody things looked like they'd take your head off if they lost control of'em. But jesus they could pick up some speed!

Hello,

Dick Ash is indeed the creator of the bellybogger. He made a version in the 70s and another in the 90s and continues to make them. In the near future there will be an interview with Dick at:

I have a template for a twin fin pin or block tail 48 to 52 inches long timber model (glass with 6 oz weave cloth). This is from a series made in the mid 60's. Believe me they go!
Anyone need a hand then let me know as I'd like to see more around the point breaks.

sounds intriguing. is this something a novice shaper/carpenter could make?

Puurri,

have you checked Rod's paipo site lately ( I posted my e-mail address in reply to your post)? I was interested in communicating about your knowledge of bellyboards in Oz etc.

regards

Bob

Ha anyone try and surf one of these. I think a kid or even teenager could standup on one.

Also any ideas on what one is worth (plastic late 70s early 80s)
