Re: Fish
After a year out of the water with spondylolethesis (can never spell it right) which basically means a bad lower back with sciatic pain I'm back in the water. As we speak jAM71 is doing his bit in community service by picking up a DMS quad fish in a foam fest 6'8" from near him to ride while I get my sea legs again.
All my boards were sold except one. Kind of had to hang onto the straw that I would be up to surfing again by not selling it. My ever trusty 7'6" Vquad.
Hopefully my back will allow me to keep surfing again.
Weird thing is I've had sore hips for decades and every year in winter my right knee would ache and sometimes go out from under me. I also found that if I surfed conventional shaped thrusters I'd always have a really sore lower back the next day. I put it down to the torque of the centre fin as opposed to the more free flow of quads and twins.
It wasn't until I started getting pain in my right heel that felt like I had a crucifixion sized nail in it that I went to see a doctor about it. He sent me off for an x-ray and let me know about the spondy. Years of stuff now made sense.

Re: Fish
Same weight as before. 6'1" and 93 kgs.
Riding dirt bikes doesn't trouble my back so just rode them more instead.
Pop up has suffered. Still paddle fit.
Hyper extension of the spine while paddling is not good for me. When I can keep my chest lower on the board my back feels better for it.
Only posted my experience in case someone else who reads it may have a light bulb moment and discover the real source of their niggling aches and pains. The connections in the body can have you missing the source of the pain.

Good to keep in mind! My back has been bad for a few years now, but always seems fairly contained (no shooting sciatic pain down leg etc)Cuttlefish wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 5:40 amSame weight as before. 6'1" and 93 kgs.

So I think more disc bulge and trading on strength I had 20 years ago which has been slowly weakening. Weights have seemed to work well so far, a yoga class would be good too but with a 3 and 6 year old not much time for that!

It is mate. Pretty much back to normal, a bit of scar tissue but the feeling has returned.
Re: Fish
Doctors have perfected a new procedure where they can replace a damaged thumb with the patients penis ... and seeing as you have a 3 and 6 year old running amok, its not like you'll be needing it any time soon. Musicians who've undergone the surgery have claimed to imbibe a lot more pleasure when fingering their instrument too.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.
