I'm a little confused about the volume in litres that gets bandied about. Is there an equation to match the best volume for your height and weight?

I'm 6'4'' and about 104kgs so it'd have to be a big bugger - all these sub-7 footers sound nice but scare me I've been riding longboards (9'6'') and a 7'6'' funboard occasionally for 20-odd years.

My rule of thumb is , either side of 3"....just don't go too far either way . If it feels good under the arm , it should be right.Volume calculations are best left to the CNC shapers , unless you have a need to know how many beers to drink , to equal the volume of your surfboard.

Will be 23.3 wide and 2.87 thick. Big 10” fin. Vee bottom.

Nice boards Jet, but why are there body parts in the backyard?

I bought this Leighton Clarke board second hand 3 years ago and only ever used it once or twice. It's 7'4" x 21 1/2" x 2 1/2" PU/PE
My go-to board for easy waves at the time was a 6'7" Miller F-skate, so when I tried the Clarke I found it really difficult to duck dive which annoyed me and I put the board away until yesterday.
Waves were around 3' and soft and I loved the board. I have been using a mal for a couple of years on these marginal days where it's either use the mal or don't surf at all. After using the mal, this board suddenly felt easy and I duck dived no problem at all, so maybe I just wasn't trying 3 years ago. Anyway, I like it now.

I know, I’ve only ever seen pics of Carvers, and was actually trolling Gumtree for one, then remembered I had this. Pulled it out of the cover and went huh?
Shame about the crappy colour scheme, the ends are actually a nice resin tint, and the glass job is first rate.

How’s the flip in the tail. That’s the Carver trade mark. It turns!

Still looking around about getting an epoxy mal if a good cheap one comes up but I had thought a Walden Mini Magik might do the trick as you can nose ride them. However they are ridiculously expensive.
When I had a Taka DT2 I ended up using it most of the time with a 6" rear and large side bites. Great longboard for larger surf.

Check out the Surf Wharehouse mals, $600 to $800 for boards that would cost $1000-$2000 elsewhere.

I now have 4 of their boards, 6'10, 7', 7'6 and 9'.

Looked at those a few times, Cranky. They look pretty okay.

It does everything I want it to, tried various fin set-ups, ended up with a 7" hatchet fin and two medium sides. All the other mals are too traditional or too performance, its nicely inbetween. Bombproof construction, $650 regular price, $600 on sale (frequent).

Note that all their expoxy boards do not use closed cell foam (but their glassing schedule is over-the-top). But then again, its only recently that Firewire started using closed cell foam (I think, maybe they still don't). Surftech used open cell for about ten years.

Have a scroll down the ding king's FB page, bit of an eye opener as to the real story behind some EPS construction. Surfboard warehouse get a mention as do a few others. Also an interesting thread about a repair to a Sunova board where Burt Burger chimes in and gets a little upset. Surf warehouse warranty their boards for production faults, just take them back and get a new one. They are so cheap to make they don't care. I've got four and no problems yet, and they've all survived the baggage handlers which are by far the major source of board damage for me (next is fin damage on the reefs), irrespective of how much foam I wrap them in. If anything they seem over-engineered. Not denying that workers can fcuk up the process though.

By the way,Bert Berger (the guy behind firewire's wooden skin technology) always used the shittiest polystyrene foam for his custom boards, the strength was in the wooden shell, and so did Surftech for about 10 years, and their boards often look like new after 10 or more years.

Having said all that it would still be much better if they did use some higher density, closed cell polystyrene foam.

mm, the colour can be easily fixed. Spray the red/orange bit to make it white and then whack on this sticker over the El Capitan.

Hey, whats wrong with the colour? Black is bad though, its hard to keep the wax unmelted in summer, especially in the tropics.
