Yep, become a lazy paddler so every take off is a bit late.

I actually find that I surf better after spending some time on the midlength or my short single as it slows everything down.
After I've been surfing my thruster for a while i tend to try and do too much too quickly and dig rails a lot. I always seem to surf better after a stint on the singles.

Its more the initial foot placement that does my head in first surf after riding a long board
Front foot placement is my achilles heel. Get it wrong all the time. It is completely fcuked. An inch or 2 difference is all that takes on a critical takeoff. Difference between fcuking up or nailing it.

Boys I've got a Round tail 6'8 x 21 x 2 3/4 Miller Waterskate that I've had since 2008. It's still in pretty good nick as I had Grant glass it strong.
As it's a bit wider in the tail than my big red 6'8 single I'm thinking about getting a finbox put in it so I can ride it as a 2 + 1.

Have any of you tried to do something similar in the past?

Dare I say it Nick C has written a good piece about foot placement somewhere, I read it years ago but it stuck with me. It's along the lines of being a bit excited when you jump back on the smaller board and jumping up a little bit early and aggressively, need to chill a little. It was along those lines anyway. After riding my middie I try to remember this.

That sounds pretty spot on. I notice when i get too excited I get to my feet with no tail pad under my back foot.
After watching the Bells comp last week I noticed that guys like Mick Fanning (same height and weight) always have the foot on the pad.
The main thing to work on this autumn me thinks.

I did, sold it. I found that when you were in tune with it it was magic, but a bit tricky to jump on and jump off. Coudlnt be surfed off the front foot, had to narrow your stance a bit and not try to overpower the board.

Fast, carved beautifully, confident - would stick any takeoff.

Would be tempted to try one again but maybe with a rounded square tail to loosen it up a bit.

When it was good though, fark it was good. Loved it when a wave sucked up.

I just want to make sure that everyone has seen this clip. It's a big call, but it's the best surfing clip I've seen on the interwebs for as long as i can remember. I'm sure I'm responsible for half the views it's had.

Devon Howard? If so guessing he is surfing a Takayama Devon Howard model. I could be wrong

It's a Tylersurfboards custom. Specs at the end of the dit. 7'2 x 21 1/2 x 2 3/4 (2+1).

I'll have to retire the 7'7 one day...

Not sure what Devon weighs, but I'll go shorter maybe 7'4 next time and 2+1 rather than straight single. That's why that Southcoast egg on the gumtree is so tempting.... lucky it's so far away.

Tyler's are fcuking gorgeous boards, and they work.
Bloody expensive though.

And don't go off San Diego dimensions and rockers, they don't work in Sydney waves.
