I took my 6'6 "fish" (quotes just for Davros) out this morning it was loose and fast with just the right amount of drive, and paddled in easily.

Dims are 15.3" nose and tail, 21, 2.5.

I have not been completely happy with it in the past, but using MR TX twins with a small/medium thruster fin in the centre has finally given me the feeling and performance I want
That fin set up will be OK on your mCoys in weak waves....ive actually ditched the centre fin on my 8/0(knee to waist/chest thin slow moving swell)

Will test my 6/8 XF as a twin when I get a chance.

I like fish. Great boards. Half the shit people say about them is bullshit.

There's a few mccoy's on the gumtree at the moment. Thought about it, for about 3 seconds.....ugly fkn things they are. I don't know how someone could call my beloved 6'8 waterskate the ugliest board on RS when there are photos of fkn mccoys on here.

All McCoy lovers can go fish.

I'll answer that one too.

Firstly, in this disposable society GMs boards are built to last.A friend has a one board quiver(7/0 nugget)that he bought in 2000.He surfs plenty and the boards in 8/10 condition.

Secondly, the shape....FORGIVING,the blocky rails just save situations. The convex bottom goes rail to rail easier than any flat/vee/concave(I own and ride them too). The thickness, take off deeper, sit further out AND compete with the kookaloonys on those wastes of foam and fibreglass(mals).Catching more waves each session definitely puts a smile on yr dial!....Cruise or carve, nuggets can ride a wide range of waves.Point and shoot the knee to waist high stuff but when the swell thickens and starts to move fast,DR McJekell changes up a few gears and utilises all the power.

Thirdly, available in lightweight epoxy or heavier PU/PE.

It doesn't phase me about how a design "looks"....its the sensation it provides that is the important factor.

I agree with that surfy. McCoys ride like no other board and it's a very addictive feeling

The curves fit the wave!

The mild convex rail to rail curve integrated with the nose to tail curve creates a"WOK"type of connection with a wave, consequently the "feel" is unique(once a waverider has tuned into the object).

Only a mCoy rider "knows" the feeling :-)(

Agree - it is the bottom and the rails. I rode them for about 18 months back in 2009-2010. I had a 5'8 nugget that was a great board for the beach i surf at because it is a consistent barrelling wave. That board seemed to just find the right line and slot in. I loved the volume (then) after spending a few year landlocked in the country. A very forgiving board.

After some time though, if the waves weren't working, i found it too neutral. You need a strong back foot. I always wanted a small potbelly or astron zot - like 5'2 - but without the thickness. Geoff wasn't keen. And i respect that - he has a vision for his boards and what will work, so i went elsewhere.

I took one to Tahiti and it worked in those waves - and there were some big waves...like big.

Geez I need to try one but the light weight construction versions seem to be at odds with the concept.

Ok, so i was kidding... I don't give a shit what anyone rides.... he who has the most fun wins in my book. Whether you do that on a boogie board, a 8ft foamie or a McCoy is in consequential.

I think the biggest problem with McCoy is Geoff McCoy

XF epoxy models are ideal for weak waves, but as ive said, when theres grunt,i like some weight.Solid waves can often be less than perfect, with weight underneath you chop becomes less of a hindrance.

The light construction does poorly in strong offshores,as with any design.

The curved bottom is "different",and not something that's instantly compatible with .My first 2 sessions on a McCoy(crap gutless knee/waist high) were on a board a friend loaned me...I didn't like it, he wanted to sell it,i gave it back......Probably about 3 months later I had bought a couple and been riding them for a few weeks.I bumped into my friend and enquired whether he still owned it,he did....So I bought it.First session it went extremely well,BECAUSE, I was tuned into the domed bottom.

Riding a McCoy once wont be ideal to assess the design....its different, kinda like switching from a nippy hatchback to a sports sedan. But tune into that sedan, modify(fin wise) and you can get a great ride.

Yes and No....He is dogmatic and opinionated when it comes to design....I think its "yesterdays hero"syndrome. He did things his way,was it the right way?....in his mind Yes.

In the minds of(some) others,No.
