Hey guys,
I'm about to shape myself a shortish single fin mal for flowing fun but also friends who might want to learn how to surf.
Any tips would be appreciated by any mal officianados - http://forum.realsurf.com/forum/viewtop ... 24&t=27505
Any mal/log/mid-length riders care to comment on my board?

Re: Any mal/log/mid-length riders care to comment on my boar
my preferences would be a rounder tail, almost a pintail. just looks more attractive to me.
flat rocker, except for noselift so the learners don't 'pearl'.
don't need much complication on the bottom for 1 - 2 foot waves, I'd make it flat and maybe a vee in the tail.
honestly the most crucial aspect will be the fin and where you put it.

Maybe look at Vouch Rolled V by Hutchinson for some ideas.....

Thanks for the tips guys!
Any recommendations for fix box and placement? I would prefer to use a box so I can move the fin back or forward as needed.
I kinda like the idea of a vee'd square tail for the glide and flow but I can imagine a nice pin will be much more versatile.
Hmmmmmmm

well the longer the finbox...
further up the board means easier to turn but less drive. vice versa.
but a longer fin box means a lot of room for refinement.
a vee'd square or even diamond tail would be nice actually.
diamond tails are also super easy to shape.

That blank would make a nice double ender......no fancy bells and whistles , just nice lines and contours to give good reliable performance in a wide range of conditions......(single fin of course).....what density foam did you get ?

While I was in Rote a rider had several of these BIng things and they went really well, but then again he was a good rider, had a dreadful arthritic knee and rode like an icon of MOTEel rancho wrote:well the longer the finbox...

Jaffa, I'm opinionated, and I'm sometimes right. So?
