Tail : Square or Pin 9'6.

Post by The Dan » Sun Feb 17, 2013 5:54 pm

After spending most of xmas break riding a 8' mini mal, I'm upsizing to a 9' 4 or 9' 6 after getting into the glide of a longer board. I'm 75kgish, mostly ride beachies, but with a few point options as well. So which tail is the better option?

I'd go the round tail mate, are you going for a single fin log or a HP thruster setup? Either way I'd stick with a rounded pin tail.

Good for you Dan. :B Now who will be shaping the board or are you buying a used log?

Just going to pick up a second hander or ( this will get me skittled I know) pick up a pop out. I'm not looking to set the world on fire atm, just wanting to get a feel for a bigger board without busting the bank.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Well Dan, 9'6" single fin would require at least a 9 1/2" centre fin in my opinion. Now the shape of the fin would depend on the shape of the board, rails, tail etc. Usually the shaper knows what fin would suit but if not get a fin box put in then you can experiment with different fins and be guided by the forum members.

.....both work fine on pig style boards , so it 's personal preference........I like square.....although pins will both engage and disengage tail suction quicker........

Dan I didn't know you where getting a pig, if so the square tail would be more the go. Not sure if the pig is the right choice, I personally think that you have to progress to a pig but other forum members might disagree. The traditional pig has a wide tail, D fin and narrow nose. Let us know how you go mate. :-D-:
