Without wanting to set off the puns, I thought width was more important, for learners?

I reckon it depends on your intended use..........IMO , they're great for flat water or open ocean.....a good fitness aid for long flat spells..........as for wave riders , they seem to kick arse in big surf......nothin but a pain in the arse in yer local line-up  ........those who ride them at your local break are on a par with guys who do jet-ski tow-ins ,when its 2-3 ft....

Quite a few of the guys I see out on them remind me of those cartoon frogs the balinese love to make that are parodies of how western people look to them. I always think of a frog in a lily pond using a leaf as an SUP and a reed as an oar with skinny legs and a big fat gut looking at the horizon until someone chucks a rock in and they overturn. This is usually the kindest thought I have about them.

When I see one in the surf I get as far away from it as I possibly can because the potential to reap havok is awe inspiring.

Just go to the local shop at Noosa and tell them what kind of paddling you intend to do.
Then just demo their boards. The sup shops always have demos.
Ocean addicts at Maroochydore also have a good demo range and good advice.
Still like to know what became of the paipo Huie made you?

Fong,
I'd definitely like a go on it.
Been riding a few different types of prone craft due to shoulder problems lately.
I've got nothing against sups when used in non-surfing roles.
Like paddling ours in the rivers and Bays.
More interesting than a kayak as you can see into the water so much better.
Our kids love it as we can take all our 3 kids on two sups for a paddle.
Went exploring creeks off the Maroochy river the other day.
Kids loved it...they thought it was great adventure as the foliage closed in and the creek became narrower.
A bit of a change from dad bailing off surfing.
Paddling against the wind sucks on them as you said.
Plenty of second hand ones on Seabreeze.
Most of them are mass produced in Asia.
The Fanatic fly is a good all around board which is also really durable.
We use Naish adjustable paddles which the kids and us can all use
and the adjustability is handy as you can change the length depending upon whether your paddling upwind or downwind.

Thanks Fong,
You could always leave it at Beachbeat, Alex if that's not a hassle.
I'm at Eumundi markets tomorrow.
If you happened to come out there you'd get a free feed of Thai food at my wife's food stall for your troubles.
Tiger knows where to find me.

Mate i did the research on this a while ago a went with what i consider to be a great all round board.

Go the channel islands caddie 10'4. Im 5'10 and was 80kgs at the time i bought it. There are only a few clips on the internet of a guy called gutz surfing it.
Goes great in the surf and on the flat water.

I mainly use mine for core strength purposes after a recent back operation. I dont surf it much as i believe them to be a liability in the line up.

Surfing the bay waves when theres a massive swell is good fun too.

SUP's are hard work when its windy or choppy. Parts of you will hurt that havent hurt before.

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.
