One California Day
Anyone seen this one yet? A mate lent it to me and if you thought Sprout was good this is way better. Documentry with incredible waves and surfing. Longboarding , shortboarding, fishes and eggs. I've watched it at least 8 times already. No Aussies in it but well worth a look.

One California Day
My wife brought me back a copy from the states yesterday as well as a Mandala Quad!!
It's beautifully filmed, a little too much longboarding for my tastes and man are those guys so serious about everything.
The only humourous moment was Jimmy Gamboa spielin' about the good vibe at Malibu over footage of him running down anyone who dropped in on him.

mate I'd be happy to put on a barbie and a 'private screening' (cant do it 'publicly' as that would break copyright laws ) if peeps were interested, trouble is, I live in the Northern Suburbs, and besides rickyG who lives nearby, I can't see that anyone would be bothered to come all the way out to see it? :?robzig wrote:So how much are the tickets? I'll be there with my esky loaded.WANDERER wrote:I'll have to set up the bigscreen in my backyard for its maiden viewing, just so I get the full effect!
Ordered my copy on Monday night, got an email reply yesterday saying it would be sent as soon as it was in stock, who knows when that will be?
Count me in Wanderer! I can't for the life of me think why people would be reluctant to travel to that neck of the woods Maybe it can double as a Reef Riders AGM (read: bbq) or something?WANDERER wrote:mate I'd be happy to put on a barbie and a 'private screening' (cant do it 'publicly' as that would break copyright laws ) if peeps were interested, trouble is, I live in the Northern Suburbs, and besides rickyG who lives nearby, I can't see that anyone would be bothered to come all the way out to see it? :?robzig wrote:So how much are the tickets? its not all the seppos pretending to be hippies again is it???, I love the alternative surfcraft but why do the guys in these dvd's all play guitars and do the hippy, nature loving image thing...Where has the individuality gone, you would think that people open minded enough to ride all sorts of boards would maybe be individuals but I think being alternative has almost become mainsteam ( cool ? ) any way as long as the surfing and boards are good you can put up with the try hard morning of the earth thing....????

Alternative
I recall hearing about a new surf/art shop which had opened up and someone had told me to go check out their alternative boards.
So I'm riding over there just before opening time and pass a young dude with longish hair wearing a 70's style t-shirt and boardies with a calico bag slung across his shoulder.
Immediately had him pegged as the one who's going to open the shop. Sure enough.
Funny thing for me is I was wearing that kind of clothing when it was the 70's not a recycled fashion thing.
All these youngsters are maybe trying to tap into the relaxed vibe of days gone by dressing up and riding old style boards and hopefully its not a futile exercise.
Anything which helps a youngster question whether all this ongoing "progress" is the only path for us is useful.
Punk and the 80/90's was a bit of a rough patch for us hippie types.
