Hawaiian Pro Design Model T
My mate has asked me to do him a favour. He’s been transferred to the American Mid West for 5 years for work and he’s asked me to try and sell his baby – a Hawaiian Pro Design Model T by Donald Takayama.
The board is 10’2” x 22” x 3” and is in excellent condition. No marks, scratches or dings of any kind. He only used it about half a dozen times.
My problem is I don’t know how much to ask for it?
Has anyone got an idea?
He paid $1,500 for it.
Is anybody interested?
Any help would be appreciated.

Takayama
If you do a bit of research one comes across the information that Takayama has ghost shapers doing most of his boards now.
Takes a bit of the sheen off.

Re: Takayama
same as a large percentage of the worlds best shapers boards... how many boards do you think Simon Anderson can shape in a week??Cuttlefish wrote:If you do a bit of research one comes across the information that Takayama has ghost shapers doing most of his boards now.

Takayama
Yep,
learnt that one the hard way a couple of years ago when I bought a Webber afterburner thinking I was getting a hand shaped stockie.
Wasn't until I was checking out the board at home I noticed a miniscule "Made in Thailand" sticker.
I realise that Simon's boards are computer shaped/hand finished there as well.
Same thing when I was standing next to my parents Rodeo Holden ute. So iconic, so Aussie tough...yada, yada, yada. Notice the Thai writing on the window and of course realise its an Isuzu built in Thailand.
However I don't mind the made in Thailand part. My wife is Thai and our daughters were both born there.
Still wouldn't it be good to know who/what shaped a board?
In the case of the Takayama someone may buy it because they think it has been shaped by Donald himself and looking for a board which will stay in flavour a lot longer than a latest design potato chip.
Monetarily the value of a genuine Takayama hand shape will be considerably more than a ghost shaped Takayama.
Not that I actually care about this too much because I won't be bidding on it.
I'd rather ride a Bic 9'4" and not be worried about dinging something so nice when it goes for a trip across the rocks.

Hang on CF, to the best of my knowledge Simon’s boards are NOT done in Thailand and never have been.Cuttlefish wrote:I realise that Simon's boards are computer shaped/hand finished there as well.
Webber has licensed GSI to produce certain models (ala the front page story) and there was also the Surftech models. All from the same factory, but different production techniques.
Lion’s share of Simon’s boards would be ex BASE in Queensland and other local production on the northern beaches. Base does Burton, DHD, Sparrow & the big fella.

Yep you got that right! I changed the starting bid to $900; same as the buy now amount. My mate wants $1,000 for the board but will accept $900. The board is in excellent condition and is a bargain in my opinion! I’m sick of people offering stupid amounts (can’t blame them for trying though)dunnc wrote:Funny I came across this here (was just sussing this out on ebay)
Is it just me or did you change starting bid from $750 to $900 ?
I'm actualy after a Takayama single shortboard...but then again a Mal could be alright although I'm too lazy for roofracks !!
I’m not buying into the whole ghost shaper issue; opinions are like arseholes everyone’s got one! I will say the board was defiantly NOT made in Thailand!
If it doesn’t sell I’ll offer my mate a stupid amount and buy it myself!

Simon's boards
I stand corrected on Simon's boards. My mistake.
No one is saying the Takayama is made in Thailand.
The interesting thing is whether Mr Takayama actually shaped it?
