Was just thinkin about that exact spot (not that I've ever surfed it) +a few in Chile and several others that can produce what bb-ers crave: supersick-slabs +burly bowls.
'It depends' is a bit of a cop-out I know, but I reckon there are a bunch of waves that are world-beaters on their day, especially if I'm out there and you're not!

Best bodyboarding wave in Australia? Whalebone. Haha, nah, the south coast has some pretty bullshit waves. Also, all this crying about exposing waves that were exposed long ago is just as annoying as the people who come out and name and give directions to semi-secret spots. For starters, saying n-wedge is not a direction. Secondly, it's on just about every vid and in most mags, yet people are complaining that calling it "that wedge down south" is going to give it more exposure? Jesus christ.

shark island would be if it was covered in a layer of sponge.
actually joked about this with perce out there one day when these huge closeout launch ramps were coming through, but onto dry reef.
he goes, "yeah, if it was covered in a thick layer of vaso, and when you hit the reef you just went plop and got stuck in it"

Yeah that was the glory days of the Island when Perce, Nugget, Young, Wazza, Wingnut, Hawke, Rissole and all them were out.
That shit was inspiring!

Well, it's common sense really. Keeping spots secret is fine - if there is such a thing as a secret spot - but some people take it way too far. I think there was a thread on here a while back where some guys were complaining about aus pipe being named on the internet! Crazy.

But why is that so crazy, Harvey?
AusPipe is by no means a secret spot but there's always kooks who havent heard about it or are yet to visit. The fact that people talk it up on the net and nowadays even moreso the mags are running shots of it all the time certainly doesnt help. When i get shots of Auspipe i still do my best to disguise it. Is this such a pointless exercise?

ive gotta disagree if no1 talked about it i would prob go down there its easy to hear about but hearing bout the heavy locals made me think twice about the visit they prob wouldnt take kindly to me and a mate who lid they might but who knows i dont wanna trek for 1 - 1-30 hours on a bus to find out im not to welcome without being verbally told

Because it's a wave that just about anyone who surfs in Australia - probably a significant amount of overseas guys too - know about. It's ridiculous that you can't even talk about a wave like that, or mention it's name, because of some sort of over-zealous need for 'secrecy'.
Also, I think the claim that just naming a break on the internet lead to more crowds is, at best, highly unlikely. A lot of so-called secret waves, are spots that surfers who don't know what they are doing wouldn't surf. The guys who are good enough to surf them usually find out through word of mouth, or by exploring themselves. Take that wave down south where ben player snapped his board: how many people would actually be game to paddle out there on a good day? Of the people surfing it, do you really think any of them discovered via the internet?
Honestly, this not mentioning spots thing is getting out of hand. What next, people jumping all over you for naming Bondi beach?
