Not happy. Had to settle for a Ryan Hardy 4P

Apparently they are still going strong, but they had a pretty bad year in 2003. It was in riptide (issue 135), a bloke from Manta replied to a letter sent in by some kid. Whether thats PR shit or not I don't know though...

Oh yeah, and Chonie, whats wrong with 4play? I reckon they are currently making the best quality boards in the market right know (along with NMD). I'm riding an Element and it hauls!!!

*waves little white flag* nothing! nothing! hehehe

But you know when you have your heart set on a certain board....
My new 4P hauls quite well, esp with my bright idea to finally use wax. (hey i'm blonde, give me a break)
But the Leila Alli's are weighted better for girls.

Hey, question. Has anyone ever had a custom made board from manta? I was looking into it last year and it seemed to work out the same price as buying one retail?

i was curious, cos i was in a shop up on the gold coast, and the guy in the shop was telling me that manta had gone broke, cos all the kids now buy lmnop's or 4plays etc...cos none of the pros ride for manta anymore. he was also talking a load of crap, so couldn't really determine what was true or not...and then i got home and checked out the manta website, and it seems that they still exist.

maybe the dude in brothers neilson was just trying to sound like he knew what he was talking about....?

cheers

chonie, i used to work in that section if you want to email me, tho lately i tried to talk to Anton Schippers from manta about getting some custom tow boards made with 3 stringers and they said they didnt have the time...
so, dont know what the deal is there.
cheers
marcus
i dont know how much boards cost as i usually get boards off mates or factory seconds with scratches, the guys i used to work with that worked on custom boards there put allot of time into them, but i get the feeling they prefer you to buy stock boards.

Yes manta did go broke, but it was for the best cause their board quality was detoriating anyway... a new owner bought manta and they should be back in business and producing new baords, better then ever sooooo don't panic too much...

a reply from anton

Oi Marcus

Cheers for the defence and the Headsup.
If you want to post this up as a final word Jerry Springer style that's
fine.
Manta have gone through the toughest year yet, to the brink of
extinction
(which would have been a shame for all Bbing) but got saved by a new
Australian owner who's looking to take the brand where it deserves to
be, at
the top.
The "for sale" sign out the front is because the building we were
renting
was for sale, manta are still there and won't be moving until April or
so
when our lease is up and we are moving to our new factory (Secret
location
in Sydney).
Otherwise everything is firing the same , still turning out the 04
range for
the world and already planning the 05 range already.
Hey kids support your Ozzie Brands or end up having your boards made in
China or some shit!
