Re: What's your go to board right now?
this thing
hand-shaped it earlier in the year and got it glassed at the clearwater factory at currumbin
5'9 x 20.5 x ??? thick Four Fin. Single concave starting gradually at the mid point all the way through the pin tail. The fin cluster is closer to a Neal Purchase jnr Quartet model rather than a mckee quad setup. ie. the rear fins are close to the front pair and near the rail. I am loving this fin position.
only used one set of fins so far, some hex core thingies. tons of drive, guess it's surfed some near double overhead waves and does everything I want it too.

Re: What's your go to board right now?
under my block of flats in the rape dungeon
I had a cheap planer and ended up accidentally cutting through the power cord and tripping the safety circuit so thankfully I'm not dead. Big blue spark and kapow!
Then I just used one of the foam blocks from Shapers with a heavy grit. sand paper to finish the rails etc. Never liked surforms, prefer to use that block. it just hacks through foam so easy, even used it to put in the concave.
i didn't have the proper side lights so got jesse to give it a once over in his bay at the factory before it got glassed.

The pin handles hollow waves ok I'm guessing?. Great when a board you made surfs good huh!. I mostly made dogs but one good one was worth it. Lot of messy mucking about though hey!?.

yeah the back end is the business, nice hard edge rails, decent concave and pintail works good at holding but can turn it easy too.Beerfan wrote:The pin handles hollow waves ok I'm guessing?. this one works pretty good, I've shaped some dogs, just experimenting with alternative designs etc. usually make them too thick. And I almost always fuck up the glassing so I outsourced it when I got it done in february.

Well, as a local custodian, I for one welcome this outsourced glassed, hand-shaped beauty into the coolangatta and lower gold coast lineups.

went good at keramas, 4-5 foot, but at shipwrecks that board was really fun to ride, perfectly matched wave. Really got the chance to throw down some moves on the bowl shaped wall that keeps appearing in front of you.

If you continue that nose you almost have a step-up pintail quad there. Great for the barrel I can imagine? Unless you made it too corky for the barrel with thickness?

Alex Dick-Read is an unfortunate name for a writer.
If I could get hyptos for $600, I'd always have one in my quiver.

Anyone want a Warner 6'0" (maybe 6'1", I can't remember), squash tail? It's not in great condition, but would serve as a stand-by or as a sacrificial lamb.
Pick up from Marrickville.
