Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
If your into single fins, this is a special. The designs been around since early days and the refinement continues. One the most versatile and timeless designs ever made. The original design was done late 60s ,when Geoff was at Barry Bennetts......

Bloody nice . Does Geoff do the shape and you do the timber laminate?
Re: Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
Yeah , I just make the wooden blank to his specs. Its still handshaped...Topher wrote:Bloody nice . Does Geoff do the shape and you do the timber laminate?
Re: Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
Wow - so he shapes and sands the solid timber blank, or am I missing something?
Bet these cost a bit.

Re: Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
Its a bit of a process Topher. I make the blank from templates of the design. All slightly oversized , with rails unturned. Shaper does the rest....customises , tweaks etc.......BTW its not solid wood , its a high floatation core.......not veneer, all timber milled from solid logs....built for performance - not just to look at. End price I'm not sure about.....they are 1-of surfboards, so I think good value.Topher wrote:Wow - so he shapes and sands the solid timber blank, or am I missing something?

Seriously! Is that a blank???? I would love a chance to ask you questions about the process leading up to such a spectacular lay-up.kayu wrote:Its a bit of a process Topher. Re: Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
A Mccoy balsa twin fin went for $4,000 .
It would be interesting to know what the money split is when Kayu has done at least 90% of the work.
What kind of wood is the bookmatched middle piece, seems to have a bluish tinge ?

Re: Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
CM,the retro-twin balsa was closer to $6000 , which IMO is very cheap, because its the only one on the planet, and whoever scored it could easily get that price if they were to sell it. Regarding " 90%' of the work I dont agree. The essence of any surfboard is the design, and that knowledge takes so many years to get , and few people have it. In this industry 99% of boards are copied from a small number of people that have the true knowledge of design........the bookmatched inlay is some local silky oak , not exactly sure, but that bluish tinge seems to be in most of the silky grown around this area....I like it..carvin marvin wrote:A Mccoy balsa twin fin went for $4,000 .

ps, the photo is a quick snapshot in the workshop...el cheapo camera...theres still a lot of work to finish this board....hours...then full topshelf glassing at T & C ,and a mirror finish....its a long process with no corners cut.

Good mate, good - half a new roof, all lockable, and the basic requirements in place to put boards out. Untold amounts of work - sheesh I forgot what I did already.kayu wrote:cheers Josh.....hows the new shed workin out ?

That's purdy Kayu. I imagine in collaboration with McCoy?
Solid balsa, or styrene core?
Solid balsa, or styrene core?
Re: Geoff McCoy 6ft single-fin double-ender.
High density EPS core......slightly heavier than a standard p/u., but higher flotation....this type of construction is very light under foot , and gives an uncanny drive through powerfull turns...the few extra pounds are worth their weight in gold ,in powerfull waves...tiger wrote:
