That sort of statement always bothers me. My thinking and pursuit, rightly or wrongly, is where you ‘naturally’ get up should be right for your bottom turn at least, no fluffing around. You can go tinkering when you want to do a different manoeuvre.

You don’t need one RRon, you can upload directly assuming you have an appropriate image.

^^yeah it's just a bit harder to fully use a concave without a rail fin to help lock it down and push—you just can't quite use the lift the same way.

concave is a bit wasted on a singly in my deeply unhumble opinion...all my best ones had flat-sided vee or slight spiral vee to a flat rocker exit.

But as long as the centre line rocker is good, the board will go anyway

Mate showed me an iphone pic today of a singly his mate found in the roof of a garage of a house he bought in the blue mountains. Rang my mate and said he would give it to him if he came and helped paint the lounge. A Plater shaped 6' 0" middle wide point and glassed on flexy. Mates going down next wensdy to help paint and pick up said classic. Can't wait to see it and have a go.Will post a pic asap.
When it gets to this level of self important stupidity I lose interest.

I'm totally hooked on the single fin feel. After the last 8 or so weeks on the bonzer riding anything from knee high windswell to double overhead groundswell , and how well it's performed, and the sheer range it can handle - I can't see myself bothering much with thrusters anymore. Three fins, yes. But probably a 1 + 2 set up. The hold and directional feel of a deep centre fin is addictive. Forces u to draw and drive ur turns out and engage much more of ur rail for a lot longer . Whereas the thruster feels like more of a snappy early quick release type feel. :?:

picked this up tonite for $100 off gumtree. got it specifically for those 6-8 foot groundswell days where there's water moving all over.

paddle in early, fade the take off, then sit back super tight in the bowl etc..

I love the logo. Looks like a 6 grader's art project.

I like it Hatchy, patching this 6'9" up at present. Matching purple fins.

Nice MM. I like it. ! That thing will hold like a vice grip .

Hope to take mine out Monday if it hits 6 foot plus.

Thinking of painting it up with some 70s type psyche art or maybe with 70s colour-pattern-pinlines .

Maybe I'll turn it into a Hawkwind looking board?

I would have thought you are describing perfect bonzer conditions - have you had enough of it??

hell no. the bonzer's great. when it's over 6 foot, just shift the fin right to the back. it handles size, no problem at all. but yes, the 6'11 single fin would likely handle shifty 6-8 foot a bit better than the 6'6 bonzer. more settled, simplistic and neutral perhaps.

if anything, the bonzer has sparked a thrist wanting to further pursue single fins in their own right, and also get a greater appreciation about how the bonzer differs from a single.

the purchase was about curiousity. always interested in how other boards perform and have never ridden a board like that. so i'm keen to see how it's gonna handle for big chunky shifty stuff because it looks ideal for it. plus, the seventies nostalgia all that. and at a hundred bucks, there's nothing to lose.

That fin is going to let it down.

I used to re fin most of my singles, the fins were often crap and just an afterthought which is no good as they rely on having a good fin.

Get a well foiled fin with a bit more tip area.

ok. so i'm going to spruce this old board up with a new life with some artwork. the top's all masked and ready to go for colours (pooey 70's colours of course).

Image

but i'm now seriously considering what Roy said about the fin. and thinking that while i'm going to all this effort, i might as well get the fin taken out and the bottom of the board refurbished, and put in a new 2+1 set up (then later do the graphics on the bottom)

so Shearer, Roy, or any other single-fin aficionados out there. what would be a good 2+1 set up for this board? any advice? (base size, depth, rake, area, tip, stiffness, etc, etc,) or any 2+1 combo/kits out there from FCS, futures, etc?
it's a 6'11 x 20 x 3 (and beefy/foiled as hell) and will be for bigger days (6foot plus, raw groundswell long period stuff)

is something like this going to be ok?

or a 8 or 9 inch greenough 4a flex fin if you wanna get a bit more wild, I'd keep it as a single though
