A squarer tail would have a more uniform and gradual change in response in the degree you weight the back foot, where the flyer round-tail would suddely loosen up I can imagine. The only drawback would be a little bit of planing speed lost compared to a squared tail in more back footed turns.

This is exactly the difference I notice, between my rounded pin tail QF and my rounded square tail QF on my backhand off the top turns when really pushing with the back foot.

spot on Caveman...the wider square tails can be twitchy and almost too loose for many..I dabbled in some tweaking of the bottom contours and fin placements, but wasnt getting the feel I wanted...so when I did the flyer rounded pin, and they had lots of life, and tight turning on rail minus the too-loose feel ( with my fave fin placements that give stacks of drive and hold )....with the rounded pins, they also have a wider range and can handle some decent waves and size too, not that they are designed for that, but its a bonus, nobody has complaint about....got another similar shape in the works with wider tail too, throw up some pics once its shaped....


Don, the traveller will be at my place by Friday arvo, will let ya know when it has been dropped off...not 100% definite , coz relying on someone to drop it off, they have said they will, no reason to believe they wont but outta my hands, hope they drop it off as promised....it will need to be collected from my place ...we'll work it out...

this ones a 6'0" x 19" x 2 1/4" for a local ripper who loves his airs and pushing boundaries with his progressive moves...he breaks boards but likes em light...so this ones an E-CON ( epoxy-EPS , carbon construction ) model is a Space-Cadet



this is a copy of a team guys all-time fave 5'8" Quad, again in E-CON


and this ones a modified B-52 in PU/Poly, this customer has been slowly transitioning back toward more perf type surfin after a knee operation and this ones still got a bit of width and foam in it to help with the slowly improving knee...its 5'10" x 19 3/4" x 2 9/16".....predominantly thruster but wants the quad plugs also to have a try ....
