Low volume boards in boardies feel great compared to in winter wetties.

For me it feels more like I’m affected by the paddling/pop up restriction than the actual weight of the wetty.

Epoxy boards are floatier at the same volume.
Volume (or displacement) determines flotation.
The only difference in flotation between eps and pu foam is the difference in weight of the foam itself, which won’t amount to much. The rider’s own weight could vary by that much from week to week.
Rusty: An epoxy's relative strength can hold up to 2,000 lbs. per square inch, while a polyester resin can hold less than 500 lbs. per square inch. Also close to half the weight. Both the foam and the resin are much lighter.

Glen Pang says they shape EPS Boards a bit thinner due to relative buoyancy.

I'm pretty sure that most of my relatives float.

I'm not saying that volume is the only thing driving design, that's insane. As is saying it's only a result of design decisions.
But volume is achieved by design decisions ... thickness, width, length, foil, concave and other varying factors all contribute to how much foam is left after shaping. Volume has only really come into the discussion since computerised shaping started spitting out the information. Even then, the desired volume is reached by combining all the other aspects of surfboard design.
Volume isn't just an outcome, sometimes it's a driver of those decisions. In this case I mean displacement.

I think you're actually objecting to the use of the measurement above all else, or people like Natho who used to measure it to 2 decimal places, and we agree there.

Before volume was put on boards you just had to guess. The fact that thickness has always been included suggests it was a factor. Just no way of measuring it. The number of Pros who rabbit on about having an 1/8” shaved off or added on to shapes suggests they think it’s relevant.

Paddle in for a quick snap and change boards?
That's what I do. Anyone who doesn't is a kook. The only acceptable exception is when an aqua turd 💩 is your only option

Volume might be a "driver" ... but it's still the outcome of all the other aspects of shaping. Otherwise you could end up with a 33.5lt cube of foam and fibreglass ... and theres ya problem, to create a functional surfboard the volume need to be distributed appropriately.

And the foam goes on the inside of the fiberglass, right?

Those new performance softies put foam on the outside too.

I wouldn't mind replacing my Mick Fanning Beastie (soft board) but they are so fcukiign expensive I can't justify it.

The pyzel options look decent also.

Wildcat: https://pyzelsurf.com.au/products/wildcattwin

Happy Twin:

Both gh3y names but whatever

Anyone surfed either of these boards?
The happy twin looks more small-wave focused.
Am preferring the look of the WC

Thanks man. But I’ve already bought this for $500 on the weekend. Mint condition, dude literally surfed it once only. So far, I’ve had it out on the weekend (small junk surf) and yesterday (overhead sets groundswell) and it’s goes great so far, fast, loose, turns nicely with good control, good drive down the line.
