Low volume boards in boardies feel great compared to in winter wetties.
For me it feels more like I’m affected by the paddling/pop up restriction than the actual weight of the wetty.

Volume (or displacement) determines flotation.
The only difference in flotation between eps and pu foam is the difference in weight of the foam itself, which won’t amount to much. The rider’s own weight could vary by that much from week to week.
Rusty: An epoxy's relative strength can hold up to 2,000 lbs. per square inch, while a polyester resin can hold less than 500 lbs. per square inch. Also close to half the weight. Both the foam and the resin are much lighter.

Glen Pang says they shape EPS Boards a bit thinner due to relative buoyancy.

Before volume was put on boards you just had to guess. The fact that thickness has always been included suggests it was a factor. Just no way of measuring it. The number of Pros who rabbit on about having an 1/8” shaved off or added on to shapes suggests they think it’s relevant.

Volume might be a "driver" ... but it's still the outcome of all the other aspects of shaping. Otherwise you could end up with a 33.5lt cube of foam and fibreglass ... and theres ya problem, to create a functional surfboard the volume need to be distributed appropriately.

I wouldn't mind replacing my Mick Fanning Beastie (soft board) but they are so fcukiign expensive I can't justify it.
