I was just thinking about a very similar board - diamond tail twin with trailer. What are the fin placements?

Not sure of the measurements for the fin placements though I can check .

What specifically are you interested in knowing the measurements of ?

seen a few of these around

but why is a surfboard with three plugs and mostly three fins in it still called a twinny?

Probably because twinnys are pretty fashionable right now yet people dont really wanna surf a proper twin.

same could be said for single fin boards with the option for side bites.

true Iggs.

I think most people riding that call it a 2+1 set-up and not a single fin.

2 + 1 shorties seem difficult to get right

I want to try a 2+1 gun.
Widowmaker is what A Kidman and Dave parmenter call em.
Reckon that set up would come in to its element as a semi-gun, with channels.

How far up the fronts are Hatchy. "Normal" Thruster set up would be about 10 3/4. There isn't really a normal for twins I think MR had the fronts at 9 1/2 for a 6'2"

I used Chris Garrett twins (similar to MR set up, but not exact).

Side fins: Height...144mm Base...138mm Rake...191mm
Trailer fin: Height...90mm Base...75mm Rake...90mm

http://www.chrisgarrettshapes.com.au/pr ... in-fin-2-1

The trailer fin tip of the rear base sits 100mm up from the centre point of the diamond tail.

The side fins tip of the rear base sits about 265mm up from the centre point of the diamond tail.

Agreed! All fins must be counted. No cheating!

It's a twin fin. Irrespective of whether or not the trailer fin was going to be part of it, the side fin placements were going to be the same (set up as a twin).

If it was a thruster, the side fins would be moved further up, and the planshape and rail line etc. would have been different.

The (optional) rear trailer fin is tiny. It's only there for lateral stability and does nothing really in terms of drive.

It's arithmetic, 2+1=3.
And don't listen to any of Steve 'trailer fin' Shearer's obfuscation.

Ok. From here forward every single fin with small side bites are known as thrusters.

What is this, fking finger painting class today ?

Just joshing, I don't care. But the thruster is a very specific type of tri fin.
