Square tails

Post by JET01 » Sat Nov 06, 2010 3:13 pm

Haven't noticed too many square tails on the market of late.
The dumpster diver started out as one, then went more rounded...
Noticed a square tail quad on More surfboards website.
Am i just looking in the wrong places or are they tending to be a thing of the past?
Just wondering if square tails go well with the 5 plug set up that is so common these days.

Hey Jet,

You mean chisel square? dead straight chopped off?

It's kind-of a lazy swallowtail, and prettymuch the same characteristics - you get the really straight rail line in the six inches to the tail end. It is a drivey design but a little harder to bring around.

The difference between one and a swallow is marginal. There's that tiny bit more foam as opposed to the swallow where its divotted out, if you know what I mean. Tell me if you can tell the difference, but less tail volume means better hold in the critical section of a hollow wave., simply because it sinks more.

As for 5 plugger with a chop square - no reason why not.

Got my 5'9 square tail from PCC on friday last week. I tried to post some pics on the New Board Porn thread, but something must've gone wrong.
I'll put some up on friday when i get home.

Surfed my new 5'9 square tail this arvo.
small 1-2ft elouera.
Only caught a few good waves, but it felt so drivey that i thought i was on a quad... great speed and drive out of bottom turns.

I really can't wait to get it into some good waves. There's pics in the New Boarn Porn thread.
