Watched it on the original Search vid in 94' which was enough to inspire me to go to J Bay in 95'..........
Was that the one where Curren does the one-footed, layback tailslide thing on an 8 foot wave?

I distinctly remember watching that J Bay section over and over again, wondering how he looked so calm in what was pretty sizey waves. Also noted that Curren never seemed to be looking at the turn he was doing but always down the line and one or two turns ahead.

No contest ....
Best surfing footage IMHO would have to be the full session at Cory's left .

^^ Africa. West Coast.

Right next to a fairly large town. Doesn't get much swell though.

Wonder what the local surfers make of a traveling crew coming over and calling it Cory's Left?

Amazing surfing indeed, so smooth and stylish and in sync.

Kinda off topic, but does anyone have a copy of, or a link to Occy's surfing in the Konica Skins at Bells from (1997?).

Re-reading his book and Kidman and Slater reckon its the best surfing, period, so would love to see it-if its anything like his wave against Andy Irons from a few years back it would have to be pretty special?

thik I have a copy somewhere but I couldnt part with it....It is really great surfing and I think it the best backhand surfing I've ever seen, so much power, style and flare all mixed into one.....I'd prefer to watch Occ at his best than any other I think.... 8)

I'm pretty sure I posted something about this a while back. I was amazed at his surfing. I saw some footage of it, either on here or on some vid or other. Have to have a think about it. I'll get back to you.

edit: I think it was on a dvd I got from the local library, sorry.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

there is a few wavesin Litmus but you really have to see how he surfed thru the whole event to apreciate just how great the surfing is...and to also remember where he'd been and what had happened not that many years earlier, he had been rested and recharged and come back with more desire to surf at the highest level I think...dunno if he would have been surfing like that without the forced break ??? for me, the best surfer behind only 1 and I'd still much prefed to watch Occ any day....Power, style, grace, flare, and an goofy Aussie to boot......just shame he aint a Qlder..... :)

I was blown away by this recent Occy vs Curren at J-Bay 2009. Classic Occ bottom-to-top combos :D

Heres a great youtube tribute clip to both Occy and Current. Amazing surfing, I love how you can really see the differences in their style. Occ's full bore approach and Curren's fast and smooth approach.
