Bobby Monster - Looks fun

Post by jaytee » Sat Sep 19, 2009 12:35 pm

hey, been thinking about this board for a while, not too keen on forking out the $750+ it'll cost just for a PU but was thinking about getting something very similar made up.

heres the link - http://www.basesurfboards.com/board_detail/show/id/61

also like the fact you can ride it as a quad or thruster. and the extra nose width for the smaller days.

anyone got one or ride something very similar?

looking at replacing my tufflife tc plus 6'0 with it. usual surfing surf coast or philip island.
i'm about 6'1 80kg

happy to have some opinions, new sticks! big decisions!

cheers

jt

Do you reckon Martinez was paid by DHD to switch boards or was it his own choice?
How much do the top pros get paid to ride/endorse a shaper/designer's product? Is it just a limitless supply of freebies?

It's just a matter of who can consistently supply the pro's with boards. Al Merrick probably couldn't supply him with boards, so DHD offered. It doesn't involve large amounts of money and contractors, just whoever can supply him with equipment.

What the hell was I on, of course it's a matter of endorsement! Pro's can get free boards from whoever the f*** they want..

Pro's a sponsored by a shaper, who makes them boards to compete with/freesurf... But that doesn't mean they ride nothing but their sponsors boards, different shapers give pro's board so they can trial em, give feedback etc... And pro's ride different boards just to see what other shapers are doing and apply them to their shapers boards if they're good.
i expect them to get their boards for free, as well as a healthy paycheck for all the spotlight they're giving the boards...

Is that better???

Apparently the bobby monster goes a lot better as a thruster.

Interesting to note that at small shity mundaka and Sopelana bobby was surfing on a squash tail thruster....
