Hey MP and Steve...

Nice looking board and a quality bit of feedback.

I've been wary of doing a soft round pin with a quad...like, seems to me with the whole looseness factor of quads the round outline would make for the wrong combo. Back when I was a wee little grommy in the 80's the first wave of quads were almost exclusively swallowtails.

I've shaken off the 80's phobia with confidence in Mckees stuff, absorbed the formulas, tweaked em a bit and made this one for a customer lately:-

Image

Dimensions are 6'5" x 11 x 19 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Hopefully it goes well...

MMM Id like that in 6'2 x 19 x 2 1/2 - nice looking board. I have a couple of round tail quads, they work. Plenty of drive and hold off the fins and the round tail loosens it off the top. I think you will be surprised.

Actually, not sure about the rear fins. I have a step up in almost the same dims except from the quad master - Stretch. What distance between the rears?

Hey Bohdi,

Its not straight from Mckee's this one...the back fins were closer to the rail at the customer request, a guy who has made them for himself but wanted my composite goodness, and I forgot already how far apart...

Yeah, I'm keen for the fedback on this one...

yes, the rounded ins do work well with the quads...it is a weird thing how people think only swallows work with quads..I do diamonds, rounded pins, swallows, bats and rounded squares and they all work fine...I have done more rounded pins in the last few weeks than any other tail shape...KS influence maybe ??? not sure but I am sure they work ...been doin some rounded squares that are going great too.... 8)

Hey MP,

Good one, I feel my lumpen ol' mind opening up.

I've had a twin which is an all-time keeper, but maybe should be a quad. It drifts in cutbacks, and its impossible on the backhand. Maybe a couple extra fins would sort it out...

I was reading about a Bourton round-tail quad that he shaped for Troy Brooks, and hes been saying that the round-tail works really well to allow the board to pivot more, rather than to project. Something about being able to place the fins further back due to the round tail or something, I read.

Ive always liked rounded tails on a board, just give it a smoother feel with my surfing, not sure if its the kelly influence or just the fact that people seem to be more willing to experiement now with all the different things going on out there, maybe not as closed minded.

sheep will always be sheep pridmore, just as you are guaranteed if you are on a peak on a empty beach someone will paddle out just to sit next to you instead of finding there own peak.

Had another sess on the QF in overhead righthanders with plenty of bump and wobble.
Shot some video, will try and post it up tonight.

This might seem like wank: posting videos of yourself surfing and it is.
But its great fun wank and fully open for scurrilous comment and general insolence.

Mark wanted to see how the board went and there's no amount of BS that stands up to some vid footage.
I haven't had much surf time so this is only the second go-out on the board.....it felt a bit unruly at first, like the lift generated by that curvy outline, concave and fin area was getting away from me.....but I found the sweet spot on an couple and I'm pretty sure this board is a damm keeper.

You hear so much BS on the internet about this board or that board....show me the video...I don't care if it Kelly Slater....as long as the rider has basic skills and it's being ridden in conditions for which it was designed,,,.....I wanna see the sled in action.

Anyway here's the result of an hour at Ballina this morning....the first 2 waves are my bruvva...then moi.
Bring on the judge, jury and exectioner.
