more than likely a few factors causing the board to not perform for you, prob just not the tail shape...seen you surf and think you would enjoy a round tail for sure... sorry to hear that its not goin for ya coz you been keen on it for ages....go back to what you know works for ya...thats what I do...

it has it's moments, i admit 8)

but , you can tell first surf i reckon if it's worth the hassle getting used to it :?:

and i don't want ding the thing so i can protect my trade in value ( my very large trade in value, hey pritty  )

Doesn't sound good Fongo. That much fin area in it, and you're finding that you're overpowering it. Won't the K's be even less fin area?

when I rode fish and Fat-Bats almost exclusively for 12 months when I got back on a shorty I was standing too far forward, the shorty felt unstable and I would put too much effort and power into turns off the top...it was due to being so used to the wider tails needing extra effort to turn them hard...does this sound like what the prob is Fong ??? it took time and perserverance but after a week or 2 of surfing the same shorty, things came back to me....maybe I am way off but maybe not ????

count me in guys, hopefully I will be able to join you, Ive got the opposite problem, Ive gone from a perfomance board back to a semi fish with 21 tail and Im struggling on it. Keep at it for a bit I reckon fong, but have to admit there is nothing worse than feeling like you will always spin a board out, had that feeling in a board ( a santosha, that was years ago ) and only surfed it twice, took it straight to a shaper, told him what I dont like and traded it straight away. Have never bought a rack board again.
no, Im not a surfer, Im just a garbage man".

Fong - i get it.
I have reverted back from quads and fishes to hi perf thruster after some years of the alternative craft.
Just got a 6'2" JS Jordy Smith Model - i like it because its got a bit of volume for hi-perf squash tail shorty.
(Jordys a big guy but young and a very good surfer, I am only 76kgs twice his age and less than half the surfer)

Absolutely love it on my backhand - got drive out of the pocket and off the top that i havent experienced for ages.
But on the forehand I miss the flow and speed off the top that I had with my quad.

Maybe I need some bizarre assymetric with quad/swallow/low rocker on the heelside and thruster/single to double concave with a sqash tail toeside!

on this topic, it would be interesting to know how many people buy boards off the rack. i have only once and it was a big mistake, sort of like what fong has done. Know I try to devolop a relationship with a shaper and always take my last board to them and go from there. I try to avoid fongs error   . So far I have had really good luck and can honestly say only ever had one bad board and many magic ones that I wish know I had kept :x

ive had a few great boards off the rack, only the exact dimensions I was after though. Bought a slighty longer step-up board off the rack a while back and it was a dog for me, lent it to a mate who loved it and bought it off me. Anyway I reckon off the rack boards can be great, my fav board was a near new off the rack board for 300. Went great. In saying that ive now got 3 customs and love them all, and when ive finally got some more cash id love another.
The question is, do i stay with the only shaper ive ever gotten a custom from, or try another? I reckon if it aint broke dont fix it, so im leaning towards staying with the same.
Anyone had similar dilemmas? what did you do?

Oi Fongles, You cannot be to far away from some one like Mark. And i'm starting to wonder the amount of money that you have?

You are like me.......

Go to Mark or someone like Steve? (0421522503) Whom I met whilst staying in Noosa at the Halse Lodge (He was the Security Guard).
